Any good horror novels?

Can anyone give me any recommendations for a good horror novel on kindle. I like haunting type ones rather than gore fests. Anyone read any good ‘uns lately?

I’ve just seen SW is doing a web chat about the stage adaptation, so that must look like a very obvious suggestion Blush

Um....

The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes. Might be a bit more thriller than horror, I’m never sure of the line, but it’s really good.

'Last Days' and 'The Ritual' by Adam Nevill. Also 'House of Fear', which is an anthology.

Thanks all, will have a look on the kindle app

The Girl with all the Gifts by M.R Carey - v original.

Anything by M R James, although they are usually classified as ghost stories, I think they are more psychological type horror stories. Although written 80 odd years ago they still read well.

Jonathan Aycliffe writes excellent ghost stories. Adam Neville is good but not for the faint hearted

Secret companions. Was one recommended by Zoe ball on her show. I honestly finished it in 2 days, couldn't put it down!

Black hill Farm by Tim O'Rourke. Still a bit haunted by it.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 17/09/2018 23:20

Already been mentioned Dark Matter by Michelle Paver

It really got to me very atmospheric

HelenaDove · 18/09/2018 03:11

The Mistletoe Bride and Other Haunting Tales by Kate Mosse

sportinguista · 08/10/2018 20:48

Anything by John Avidje Lindquist, all seriously good and spooky, he wrote 'Let the Right One In' but his others are very good.

The Elementals by Michael McDowell. Southern (US) gothic at its best - imo. And definitely spooky rather than gory. You might never look at a sand dune or even a beach holiday in the same way.
