Primary School with no car?

What happens if you live rurally without a car and you aren't walking distance from a primary school?

Not us but it came up in conversation as apparently there is a mother in village X near us, village X has no school and the villages near it with schools aren't walking distance, the local bus service is crap so the mother would essentially be stranded in another village for the whole school day until they picked the child up from school.

Would the LEA put on transport?

If the nearest school is over 2 miles away, then yes, they'll be offered free transport.

The LEA lays on free transport pick ups round all the remote villages where we are and brings them to school.

Round here the children in remote villages get either a taxi or mini bus even if the parent has a car and could take them to school.
