Question about car loans

Sorry this is not in money, but once had a look and there's not a lot of traffic there and I'd like to be set straight as much as I can be.
I'd like a new car, mine is a banger and I worry whether I'll get to work at the minute. I don't want anything amazing, just a hopefully more reliable car.
Problem is I have an appalling credit rating and I'm super worried I won't be able to get finance. Does anyone know whether pcp or hp has a better acceptance rate?
I have ccj's and defaults so that will obviously (rightly) go against me. I do however own my own house outright so I'm hoping that someone can tell me that, that will work in my favour. Any clever people have any knowledge on the subject? Thank you

Unfortunately the style of finance agreement has no bearing on how likely you are to be accepted, so if your credit rating is poor, you are only likely to be accepted by sub-prime lenders with high APRs which will make a car purchase VERY expensive and there's no real way round it I'm afraid.

Your only real hope is to speak to your mortgage lender and extend lending on your home at a favourable rate. If your mortgage lender won't extend lending on the most secure of assets, you are unlikely to secure lending on a car.

Sorry if that isn't what you want to hear.

Thank you for your reply. It's not what I wanted to hear but I'd rather be told it than to apply for credit I won't get and then make my profile even worse.
Does it make a difference that I don't have a mortgage? I own my house outright

Are you in a credit union? My credit wasn't great but because I had been saving with the credit union for over 2 years they gave me an £7k car loan with only 3.9% apr which is far better than arnold clark etc rates x

I’ve used Car Finance 24/7 before, all online so no worry about going into a dealers and having the embarassment of being turned down.

Not in a credit union. I'm not a saver and by the time I do save, my car will have totally conked out.

I've checked the car247 or whatever it's called. It's not a personal quite but it gives borrowing 6000 over 4 years as 226 per month. That's way out of my price range.
Thanks for your replies folks.
