Can anyone tell me if I will be invited to universal credit.

I am due to start a NHS course a week today. My last day at work till be tomorrow (aghhhhhh) and I have one child. I currently receive child tax credits and child benefit. I am not entitled to working tax credits due to my income.

I live in a rented property and my local council have told me if I want to make a claim for housing benefit this will now be done through universal credit. I have been advised by the DWP that once I finish work I will be entitled to the basic amount of ctc which is approx £65 a week. However I am not sure whether I will be entitled to the housing element of UC. I have tried to do an online calculator but they cannot give and accurate answer due to me being a student. I have horror stories about universal credit. If I apply and am not eligible i cannot claim tax credits again, I will then receive universal credit and I’m worried I will be worse off. Is anyone a NHS student (who has a student loan instead of the old bursary) in a similar position or is there anyone who maybe knows what I may be entitled to? I can post my student finance figures if that would help.

Thanks

I'd rather borrow money than use universal credit.
