Google play store recommendations?

I moved my husband's phone which was charging out of the way to lay the table. The screen lit up and the google play store appears with a dating site as a recommendation. How does google play store decide what apps to recommend for you? Is it based on his activity?

You could have checked the apps that were on the phone

Couldn't see it as an App on his phone, just usual WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram. But our supposed to be friend, had been sending him porn. Could it have recommended a dating site because of the porn being sent to him?

Sometimes they are just the apps that Google are being paid to push. I currently have recommendations for a photo editing app (I don't edit photos, never downloaded similar), yoga (same) and Twitter (don't use Twitter). I would say it's unlikely to be because of the porn, but also not necessarily anything untoward. There are various chat and dating apps in my recommended lists at times just due to the algorithms. I don't use them.

I've used all google products for years and downloaded a lot of apps. The play store recommendations are still rubbish for me- usually just a selection of popular apps.

I don't think you can read much into this, but more importantly: why are you? If this was my relationship it wouldn't occur to me to make such a leap.

Thanks all. Feeling quite reasured. I don't think I've anything to worry about really. The only thing causing my mind to wonder was that a dating app was also downloaded to our laptop, but as this came from another family member, it is possible that they had already downloaded the dating app onto the laptop before we had it.
