So I get paid tomorrow, but after a stressful week I have inadvertently let myself get down to only £10. Things that I need to buy today are:

Washing liquid
Toothpaste
Loo roll
Milk
Lunch for myself
Dinner for 2 adults

Doable? I have access to a small tesco, large Morrison's and local butcher/ fishmonger etc. There are no cheap/ value shops nearby for toiletries. Please give me some ideas!

Totally doable. Go to Lidl. :)

Karigan198 · 17/09/2018 10:51

Ps presuming everyone has a Lidl. If not then doable but not so comfortably at Tesco

Hideandgo · 17/09/2018 10:53

Lunch and dinner, what do you have in the house already?

Washing liquid, toothpaste, loo roll and milk in Morrisons. Leaves you £5 at least for food.

RedPandaMama · 17/09/2018 10:54

For meals - jacket potato and beans, about 70p a person, beans on toast about 40p, pasta with tinned tomatoes and cheese about 50p a person.

Doable if you get Tesco value brands. Sorry you're in that position.

star8 · 17/09/2018 10:54

very doable.
even for the meals stuff like pasta cheap and can fill you up. toiletries get cheaper or own brands

littlewoollypervert · 17/09/2018 10:55

Wash teeth with just water for a day, won't do any harm just once.
Wash dishes with hot water and pour kettle of boiling water over them to finish. (Just did this on hols)
What is in cupboards/fridge - if you have staples someone could come up with meals using those.
Is milk needed for kids or can you skip tea/coffee for a day?

MyOtherProfile · 17/09/2018 10:55

This.

Miladymilord · 17/09/2018 10:56

Easy! Forget the washing up liquid just use hot water. Nick a loo roll from work. Cheap toothpaste from lidl and that gives you 9 for lunch and dinner which is a piece of piss.

StartingGrid · 17/09/2018 10:56

Go on my supermarket website and you can create a basket to compare costs at least for the essentials!

Racecardriver · 17/09/2018 10:59

Easily. Go to Morrisons. Cheapest toothpaste should be £1 max. Smallest pack of loo roll again max £1. Milk-how much do you need? You could get one of the half pint ones for 50p. For dinner get a tin of chickpeas, a tin of tomatoes, one brown onion and some rice. This should cost between £3 and £2.50. Fry it all up with whatever spices you have at home and serve with cooked rice. For lunch you could buy a stir fry mix and have it with afore mentioned rice.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 17/09/2018 10:59

If you get paid tomorrow you don't need to worry about the tooth paste (cut open the tube and Scape out the last bits or go without) washing up liquid can wait. Just wash up tomorrow or use boiling water and rinse well.
Dinner and lunch jacket spuds and beans.
Loo roll either ask next door neighbor pinch some from work/public loo or buy cheap Tesco loo roll or a pack of tissues.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 17/09/2018 11:00

Oh and milk you can just buy as you will have money left from not buying the other stuff and only spending £1.50 on jacket spuds and beans.

hobblesma · 17/09/2018 11:01

I have access to a small tesco, large Morrison's and local butcher/ fishmonger etc.

First reply....go to Lidl Hmm

Washing liquid - forget it until tomorrow
Toothpaste - £1 Morrison's
Loo roll - £1 Morrison's
Milk - £1 Morrison's
Lunch for myself - soup and bread? £1.50
Dinner for 2 adults - you have a fiver, easy stuff

Esme3 · 17/09/2018 11:04

tooth paste (cut open the tube and Scape out the last bits

I did that this morning, haha thanks though.

I guess I could leave out the washing liquid but I was going to use it for some laundry too.

Some good ideas, thank you. I've not found myself in this position for a good while (could kick myself) and I'd forgotten about the smaller packs of loo roll etc, I was thinking I'd have to spend at least £2!

never ceases to amaze me how bitchy people can be. I promptly followed that by clarifying that I was presuming there was a Lidl but it can be done at Tesco’s too. So sorry I tried to support you. I can assure you it won’t hapoen again

glenthebattleostrich · 17/09/2018 11:14

Go to Morrisons, their savers range is cheaper than Lidl anyway

Esme3 · 17/09/2018 11:14

I wasn't being bitchy, I just thought it was quite funny, in a very lighthearted way! Sorry you thought otherwise.

Dubz227 · 17/09/2018 11:21

The local co-op always has a 5 items for £5 deal on if you have one close by. It consists of 1 main meal 3 sides and a desert. All full size packets/boxes. The rest you can get from Poundland for. Quid each.

Dubz227 · 17/09/2018 11:22

Sorry OP missed the bit where your limited to shops. Oops

Miladymilord · 17/09/2018 11:23

OK OP Hmm

Tbh I can't believe you need to ask how to do this, but I would have kept it to myself until you started taking the piss.

cannotmakemymindup · 17/09/2018 11:24

Shampoo has the same properties as washing up liquid - grease removal/cleaner so that could be used on the dishes.

SneakyGremlins · 17/09/2018 11:24

Don't put washing up liquid in your washer!

SneakyGremlins · 17/09/2018 11:26

How much milk will you need OP?

50p for a pint in Morrisons.

Spanglyprincess1 · 17/09/2018 11:37

Easy - toothpaste£1, toilet roll £2, washing up liquid 60 p and pint milk 50p
Then bread £1, tin beans 60p if own brand. Lunch sorted. Then pasta bake or some such for tea, pasta £1 and sauce £1.
