Do isps do this?

Contract ended and we were switched over to the ridiculously expensive version. Found the cheapest deal elsewhere and applied to switch. Switch is due on 27th - need a new router because we have an isp locked router at the moment (we do actually have our own router we could switch to but laziness abounds) and the new provider is going to send one locked to their isp.

Anyway since a few days after applying to switch the internet has been extremely patchy. Working one minute, cutting out the next etc. It was fine and never did that before. I’m extremely suspicious that once our current isp got notice we were leaving they did this to our connection deliberately. We have paid for the rest of the month so I think this is atrocious if they have. Of course it could just be a coincidence and I’m sure they’re banking on the fact I can’t really prove one way or the other if it’s not.

Is this something anyone else has experienced? Is there anything I can do about it?
