Having used my married name for 13 years and been divorced over 5 can I now choose to revert to my maiden name or did I need to do that as soon as divorce came through?

I think you can declare yourself to be called whatever you want but when I was in this situation the banks and work, etc wouldn’t let me change back without an official name change document.

I googled “change name” and it was £15. They sent the forms to me, a friend witnessed me signing them and I used those forms for all the official changes I needed to make.

A decree absolut will be enough. The date is irrelevant. Start with your passport as most places will want this plus a copy of the decree absolut.
