Hot wheels for a 3 year old ?

Would a hot wheels track be too old for my just turned 3 year old for Christmas? He is car obsessed.

I've looked at various kits online on Argos and amazon etc but is there something that someone can recommend as a starting point that would be easy ? Open minded on cost. Help

Sorry no help but I have this exact question so im just going to watch with interest. My ds will be three in January and loves hot wheels cars. There pretty much the only thing he plays with but all the tracks look so fiddly.

meant to say, maybe you could get the hotwheels cars on their own and then get one of the tings i linked above instead of the track? if you wanted a track like thing, maybe something like this? www.aliexpress.com/item/120-80cm-Polyester-Play-Mat-Large-Playmat-Non-slip-Playing-Mats-for-Kids-Cars-Racing-Car/32824650842.html

My 3 YO loves cars. He has loads of hot wheels cars. He also has a hot wheels garage and a knock off one as well. And one of those car mats.

You can get My First Scaletrix which is suitable for children 3+ and the Big City Motorised set is also suitable www.argos.co.uk/product/6147826
My DS preferred his Wave Racers track to Hot Wheels www.argos.co.uk/product/7423714

Yes, fine. My best friend's son has hot wheel sets and my DD was obsessed with them at 3

DS has a big Hotwheels loop the loop thing when he was 3. Loved it. Look on Amazon, they often have old models reduced.

My dad bought my son just the hotwheels orange track and some cars rather than a proper set for the xmas he was 3.4. Its had hours of play. He received a proper set for his 4th birthday and it's been a nightmare. Falls apart constantly, doesn't fit all the cars, generally frustrating. The track on it's own laid over cushions/up furniture is far better. And a lot cheaper.

itisthattimeagain · 16/09/2018 20:33

Ahh yes we have a car mat and general garage.

Was musing about what track packages or looping type bits are appropriate for his age. I will try to find the simple orange track

Wave racers look good that was the type of set I was considering

My DS is 2.5 and absolutely loves Hot Wheels. Not so much the tracks (older DS7 gets more use out of them) but the Hot Wheels garage. HOURS of fun. Quite bulky and not cheap but really worth it.

itisthattimeagain · 16/09/2018 20:44

@cushiony I might need a bigger house for the hot wheels garage Grin

So the tracks might be a bit too complicated at 3 ?

Well to be fair sometimes my 7yo needs a bit of a hand with the construction but once they're built (quite fiddly) they're great fun. We spend ages whizzing cars around them. And you can have races etc. It's something they can use for years so even if you buy and your DS is a bit little for it then he'll grow into it in no time.

We have a fab hot wheels jump that clips onto a table edge, perfect for a three year old!

Hi @itisthattimeagain, I know this is an old thread but I’m thinking about getting my son a hot wheels track for his 4th birthday in January (so hard to think of thinks just after Christmas!)
Did you get your son a hot wheel track? Which one and does he love it?
Many thanks!
