They’re new campaign includes a highly controversial sportsman who has been accused of lacking patriotism. As a result people are boycotting/burning products.

It’s been pretty high profile and it’s pretty straightforward.

Colin Kaepernick. Who takes a knee (American nonsense, essentially refuses to kowtow) during the anthem. A protest against racism. People are boycotting stuff. As well as buying massive amounts of it. Nike's shares and profits are up.

Colin Kaepernick started a movement in the NFL of kneeling during the National Anthem to protest police and racial brutality. Trump and many other white middle class saw this as unpatriotic. Many US law enforcement & government agencies have vowed not to use Nike as an official supplier since CK featured in Nike ads. Conversely, Nike’s popularity on social media has risen amongst the under 35s; whether this will convert to sales remains to be seen but its value has risen on the stock market

Ah right, thank you all. I did click on a youtube clip ''why is Nike's ad controversial'' and it wouldn't play! Confused so thank you all three of you Brew

NFL is sponsored by Nike, so people binning/burning Nike stuff are protesting against the perceived lack of patriotism from players. Trump has, as usual, exacerbated the situation.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 16/09/2018 16:50

Idiot Americans getting their knickers in a twist about a black footballer refusing to kowtow to rabid patriotism.

Has nothing to do with me and no impact on my life whatsoever but it makes me so angry. So fucking ridiculous.

ImaginaryCat · 16/09/2018 16:54

Let's not forget that most of these protest videos show people burning Nike merchandise they already own. So their money is already in Nike's coffers and now those dickheads have no trainers.
Way to sock it to the man!

(Much like a protest vote that puts a rapist in the White House. I'm pretty sure a Venn diagram of both varieties of loser has a lot of overlap)
