Have you switched to a winter duvet yet?

Gonna strip the bed later as I usually do on a Sunday. I'm thinking of making the switchover from the summer duvets to the winter duvets. Has anyone else done this yet?

My summer duvet is 2.5 tog, and even that isn’t too warm at the moment. It is so humid and sticky at night here at the moment.

Havaina · 16/09/2018 17:01

I've been looking for a naice, reasonably priced 1 tog duvet, but they seem to all have polyester covers.

Stephisaur · 16/09/2018 17:06

We don’t have a winter duvet. We have a thick duvet (no idea on tog) which is on the bed all year.

I’m usually cold, so it takes a LOT for me to admit it’s warm enough for no duvet! DH sleeps under a sheet for most of the year 😂

When it was particularly hot this year I slept around the duvet so I was sort of cuddling it. I don’t like it when the weather gets colder and DH decides that I’m supposed to share the duvet 🙄

1 tog seems almost impossible to get without remortgaging. Not sure why!

RedRosie · 16/09/2018 17:12

We have two double duvets on a king-sized bed which is a revelation after all these years (common in Scandinavia I understand). It's the secret to a happy marriage! You can have different togs to suit and we have the same covers - it's great. I'm on a 3 tog (menopausal) he's on a 4.5 tog. It's life-changing. Smile

Havaina · 16/09/2018 17:17

Noword it's weird!

I did see a light 100% cotton quilt in TK , I might try that.

CuntyMcFuckerson · 16/09/2018 17:18

I have a 100% silk duvet and it's worth every penny I paid for it!

It's on all year and I don't need to add blankets when it's cold. It keeps us cool in summer (used it this whole summer even in the heatwave) and we emerge red cheeked even on the coldest winters morning.

Havaina · 16/09/2018 17:20

Gosh, how much was it Cunty? I'm going to guess... £300?

QuinionsRainbow · 16/09/2018 17:24

No, we only changed from our blanket/sheet arrangement to our 3.5 tog duvet a couple of weeks ago. Don't expect to start using the 10.5 tog much this side of Christmas, unless the next ice age comes a bit early, and I don't think we have ever used the two clipped together. And no pJs here, either.

Knittedfairies · 16/09/2018 17:25

I’ve just put the summer duvet on at home because it was getting a bit nippy at night; I just had a top sheet until then. However, we are currently in a holiday cottage and the duvet is that heavy/thick, it’s like sleeping under a paving stone.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 16/09/2018 17:26

Yes but only because the three year old wee'ed on my thin one so had to wash it! I have since put the thin one back on, however I have had the heating on for the last couple of days! Blush

wonkylegs · 16/09/2018 17:31

Yes on Friday although on Thursday I had a blanket over the summer duvet.

CuntyMcFuckerson · 16/09/2018 17:33

Havana, it was £225 for a king sized duvet, from John Lewis.

Honestly, I'm totally an 'own brand is just as good' kind of person but I'm so glad I splurged that one time. I loves my bed!

CuntyMcFuckerson · 16/09/2018 17:34

Bigger off autocorrect - HAVAINA, sorry!

Borntobeamum · 16/09/2018 17:35

We've gone from our 4.5 tog to our 10.5tog this week. Not cold enough for our 13.5 as our brand new house holds the heat and we are still rather hot in bed 🤪

TheThirdOfHerName · 17/09/2018 15:36

It's 27 degrees in my bedroom right now (South East England). I must be living in a different climate to many of you.

lolaflores · 17/09/2018 15:40

Its about 24 here in London. i have the ceiling fan on and my DH creates a microclimate in the room.
I tend to run on the warm side of life myself and have a thin duvet all year round and not a pick of clothing but some knickers. Mind you, I like to have about 3 pillows which I shove round me.

Havaina · 17/09/2018 15:43

Thanks Cunty! The reviews are excellent. Very tempted by the 3-4 tog.

CoffeeShortbread · 17/09/2018 15:44

Yes and laundered the summer one. Though truth be told, I was probably a bit premature. It’s still a bit muggy in my part of the country.

weegiemum · 17/09/2018 15:46

No and I live in Scotland!

CakeNinja · 17/09/2018 15:49

We sleep with the same 10 tog one all year round. The 4 tog stays in the airing cupboard and is used when people
come to stay if the spare bed is also full.
If it’s hot, I sleep under a sheet but we have the heating on if it’s cold so the bedroom doesn’t really ever get chilly.

CoffeeShortbread · 17/09/2018 15:50

Our ‘winter’ is 9.0 tog. We have an all seasons microfibre job from soak&sleep. A 4.5 tog summer and a 9 tog autumn, which can be clipped together to make an extra warm 13.5 tog. Never needed that though as both DH & I run warm and our bedroom is quite warm too, despite being an old house.

RedneckStumpy · 17/09/2018 15:53

Not yet here we wait until it drops below freezing at night.?

Greywind1523 · 17/09/2018 15:55

We don’t change ours as we both hate being too hot. It’s a summer one all year for us and just a sheet when it’s too warm for that. There has been the odd occasion where I’ve put my dressing gown over the top of the duvet in winter but no more than half a dozen times all year.

I’m glad DH is the same as me in being a warm person or we’d be arguing in winter!

MadMum101 · 17/09/2018 16:05

We have just a sheet and bedspread/throw thingy on (which I take off at night and only put on so you can't see I don't iron bedding) and I have no intention of putting the quilt on for a while yet. Still needing the fan on overnight! We only have a 10 tog quilt on (with bedspread) even in freezing weather as house is too hot.

Regretting putting DCs quilts on (they have their fans on too) but cba to wash and put them away again!
