pain in right side after eating...?

I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago, and have had grumbles and gurgles in the same area pretty much ever since. I've become more aware of the grumbles more recently, and am starting to notice that the gurgling and discomfort seems to appear around 30 mins to an hour after eating. It's not painful as such, but I'm very aware of it. Sometimes the discomfort goes into my back and between my shoulder blades - very very similar feeling/area to when I had gallbladder issues.

Any thoughts?

That sounds like dyspepsia (indigestion). Have you tried a course of Gaviscon?

SpanishFly · 15/09/2018 23:43

Well I take gaviscon and or lansoprazole fairly regularly. I also often take Probiotic yoghurt etc. X

What do you mean by fairly regularly? Lansoprazole every morning? And Gavison 4 times a day? Might be worth trying that regime for a week. Issues within the stomach can feel very like gallstone issues

I have a very similar problem. My gallbladder was removed at the start of this year but I’ve got pain, achiness in upper right area of my abdomen. Plus constant burping and severe reflux. GP has doubled the lansoprazole plus ranitidine but nothing is working. I also sometimes have pain in back occasionally. Does your GP have any thoughts? I’m due back to see mine this week.

SpanishFly · 17/09/2018 08:09

No not as regularly as that. I just feel as if something is "wrong".

I haven't seen the doctor recently. I've brought it up ages ago when I was seeing him about something else, and he all but dismissed it as being scar tissue and very normal after gallbladder removal. the fact it has slowly got worse is really bothering me.
I'm half avoiding going to the doctor as I don't want to know, and half just don't have the time, I work 2 jobs and also have to fit in school runs.
I had a terrible week or 2 in June with it, felt much like gallstones and I felt unwell after eating. Then it literally just stopped after a week. A bit like when a stone had dislodged.

Well why don't you try a week of regular medication, then if nothing improves go to the GP and explain what you've already tried, then he'll be less likely to fob you off.

Thanks for the suggestion. I feel myself getting really scared about what it could be. I'm not usually a hypochondriac and my gut says something is wrong. It's been bothering me today. Aware of this knotted fist sort of feeling under my right ribs. A bit like sore trapped wind but more so. Did a lot of lifting yesterday too, so.my dh keep a sayingIt's probably muscular. But that wouldn't explain why it sometimes eases off for no reason and vice versa.
I'm a bit constipated too so it could all be linked.

Hi Spanish I know exactly what you mean about that knotted fist feeling. I woke up with it this morning and felt awful, it’s making me scared too as to what it could be. I’ve now read that sustained, long term use of medication like lansoprazole can be a stomach cancer risk so I’m concerned that GP has prescribed the maximum dose. I don’t want to stay on it permanent, not that it’s working anyway! My pain/achiness happens in upper right but also centrally as well as right hand side ad in the back sometimes too. I had an endoscopy at start of year which showed little polyps in stomach lining (apparently common and bipsied) but it also showed gastritis. Last night I took my medicines and about 15 minutes later, I burped and the 4 tablets all ended up back in my mouth! It was awful, the bile taste as well as the bitter tablet coatings. No-one can tell me if this is all linked to the abdominal pain/aches. I really sympathise with you.

SpanishFly · 17/09/2018 15:42

Oh goodness, that sounds so similar to mine. In my back and right shoulder blade almost constantly just now. I'm so down and just don't want to know what's wrong, if that even makes sense.
I've been a heavy drinker too, so I just keep thinking it must be my liver or something. My mind is in overdrive

PS i had blood tests a few months ago and my liver function tests were a little high but not worrying.

@SpanishFly did you get to the bottom of this?

Hi, not really. I know I have a slightly fatty liver, but the GP said that wouldn't usually cause symptoms.
I don't have the pain so much any more, so I just try to get on with things now.
I also notice that it's worse if I am tense or anxious, so that's definitely a factor too.
