Years ago, I bought a 16GB Sony Walkman after it was advertised on the clearance section of Argos.

I spent £59.99 on it and I fell in ❤ with it.

I could upload the entire works of a single artist (David Gray 😳), chop and change what I listened to on a regular basis and the battery life was superb.

I recent years, the battery life has started to go down. Instead of charging once or twice a week, I'm charging it every other day, but aside from that, all was well.

That is, until I pulled it out of the drawer to bring it with me and it wouldn't wake up.

I left it on charge for some hours and it still wouldn't wake up.

Devastated, I went to look for a replacement.

Love Sony, don't want Apple, not sure about the customer reviews for Bush.

Second hand versions of my model are advertised at nearly £90.

Modern Walkmans with 16GB capacity are more than twice the size and over £150!!!😱

I was horrified.

Double checking the model number yesterday, I came across the RESET button.

This morning, I found a blunt embroidery needle and pressed RESET.

GLORY BE! IT WORKED! 😍

My Walkman lives! IT LIVES!

It's sitting there charging up as if nothing's wrong.

The sense of relief is fantastic.

Does anybody do this?

Fall in love with an inanimate object and do little happy dances when you 'repair' rather than replace them?

Yes!! My Internet Router was becoming slower and more unreliable by the day . Discovered the Reset button .Good as new Grin

Yep - my beloved iPod Classic, which has hundreds of albums on it and brilliant battery life, and just does exactly what I need it to do. Similar to you, I thought it had died, couldn't get it to wake up even after a massive charge, but then found some complicated combination of buttons to press to revive it and it was fine.

Yes my beloved old laptop that had my whole life on it suddenly stopped working. It would only switch on if I had it positioned at a precarious position on the kitchen worktop and absolutely no one was allowed near it. The slightest touch would send it back off to sleep again and would take me literally hours to position it again so that it would switch on. I took it to be repaired and the cost was twice the price of a new one so I just left it as it was and muddled through like that for the best part of a year. Fast forward to last Christmas and a family member suggested I buy a new/cheap charger from Amazon. So £8.99 seemed like a fair gamble. Guess what? It bloody worked Grin

I wasn't expecting any replies.

I've delayed having to buy a replacement for at least a couple of years.

Sorry, prematurely posted accidentally.

It's fabby, isn't it?

Inanimate objects yes, but technology? No. Always do a back up and it'll never be lost.

MorrisZapp · 15/09/2018 14:05

Not technology but my wonderful sister in law hand made a gorgeous, personalised santa sack for my little DS. In a depressed fug, I managed to give it away in a charity bag.

I was so utterly upset by it.

Doing a clear out a year later... I found it in a drawer. Nothing new can ever compare to the joy of refinding old treasures.

spiderlight, what is this magical ipod fix button spell you speak of?

spiderlight · 15/09/2018 14:52

@ChampionXX - support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204307

For mine it was:
Force restart your iPod classic

Put the Hold switch firmly in the unlocked position.
Press and hold the Menu and Center (or Select) buttons for 8 seconds, or until you see the Apple logo.

We have an old iPod. It was beautiful. Until DD put the pin in wrong, a lot. When you get it wrong you get locked out for an ever increasing time. Somehow she was wrong enough that I cannot get back into my iPod for another 5282975388 minutes...

Oh my goodness! This is why I love Mumsnet. Thank you so much spiderlight I now have a working ipod that I thought I was going to have to throw away! You are a star!!
