If I asked if you are free next Wednesday, what date do I mean?

This Wednesday and next Wednesday mean the same thing unless you say it actually on a Wednesday. The Wednesday that has just happened was last Wednesday .

26th, it is not this Wednesday. It is the one after this Wednesday, next Wednesday.

Its the early hours of the Sat 15th right now so next Wednesday would be the 19th

Next Wednesday is 19th. Week Wednesday is 26th.
Ask from Sunday onwards and it would be 26th as 19th would then be this Wednesday.
This Wednesday doesn't exist when you ask on Thursday/Friday/Saturday unless you say this coming Wednesday. Which is next Wednesday and referred to as such.
12th is Wednesday gone, and 5th was last Wednesday.

Problem is solved by giving a date.
