19th or 26?

19th. The 26th is a week on Wednesday. This Wednesday is/was the 12th.

This once caused such a huuuuge misunderstanding between DP and I that we didn't speak to each other for 2 days!

lottiegarbanzo · 14/09/2018 22:25

This Wednesday is the Wednesday in this week. Next in next.

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/09/2018 22:26

This is great! To me, this weds is the 19th. Next weds is the 26th. All of you saying the 19th Are wrong what do you consider "This wednesday" to mean?

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/09/2018 22:28

Those of you who would change their minds on Monday/sunday are just wierd!! Where's the sense in that?

OP posts:
Smidge001 · 14/09/2018 22:28

The Wednesday in this week

hamburgers · 14/09/2018 22:28

19th

I'm sure there was a similar thread on MN not that long ago about this.

squirrelnutkins1 · 14/09/2018 22:28

It's the next Wednesday to come..., so 19th and it's next week from now.
But I do understand why people would say 26th. Guess you just have to clarify when arranging.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 14/09/2018 22:29

This Wednesday is the Wednesday of the current week. Next Wednesday is the Wednesday of the next week.

Smidge001 · 14/09/2018 22:29

The logic is that this =this week, and next = next week. That's the logic to changing the date when you move from Sunday to Monday.

SendYouUpInFlames · 14/09/2018 22:30

19th

Anythingforacatslife · 14/09/2018 22:30

This Wednesday only works if you’re in the same week. Next Wednesday is the Wednesday in the next week, in this occasion the 19th. It will become this Wednesday if you ask on Monday.

oakthorn · 14/09/2018 22:32

19th. 26th is a week on Wednesday where I come from

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/09/2018 22:33

So if those of you who are wrong saying 19th, said this Wednesday today, you'd mean they day before yesterday?

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 14/09/2018 22:34

This Wednesday happened the day before yesterday. We are still in “this week” , which started on Monday 10 September.

Next week starts on Monday 17 September. So next Weds is 19 September

26 September is the week after next.

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/09/2018 22:34

@oakthorn yes a week on weds would be the 26th, but that's different!

OP posts:
Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 14/09/2018 22:34

Next Wednesday is the next time that Wednesday happens. How on earth can anyone be confused by that?!

Redyoyo · 14/09/2018 22:35

26th

19th is just on Wednesday.

Octavella · 14/09/2018 22:35

It will become this Wednesday if you ask on Monday.

But there's only one Wednesday per week!

C0untDucku1a · 14/09/2018 22:35

This Wednesday was two days ago. This week.

C0untDucku1a · 14/09/2018 22:36

Next wednesday is next week

lottiegarbanzo · 14/09/2018 22:36

This Wednesday I was doing X, next Weds (the Weds in next week) I will do Y.

I could elaborate with 'this Wednesday just gone' but I wouldn't.

Saying 'what are you doing this Wednesday' when it isn't yet 'this' week is nonsensical.

user1486076969 · 14/09/2018 22:37

19th

Smidge001 · 14/09/2018 22:37

Yes, by saying this Wednesday today, you would be referring to what happened the day before yesterday.

Ie this wednesday I went to the doctors.

butlerswharf · 14/09/2018 22:37

I always ask for clarification because some people say that and mean the 19th and some mean the 26th.

DamnWhyAreAllTheUsernamesTaken · 14/09/2018 22:38

Next Wednesday is the next Wednesday so 19th. A week on Wednesday = 26th
