Worried over erratic periods

Bit of background. Hadn’t had a period for 4 months, then had a really heavy one for 10 days (unusual) and my last one lasted 6 days but was very heavy and painful. Soaked through tampon, pad AND my trousers.

Went to doctor and she said to get a blood test done for thyroid and recommended contraception to lighten it up (coil booked for 3rd October). Test came back borderline so waiting to have my bloods re done.

Now 13 days after my last period stopped I’m back on again. This is unusual as it’s normally 4-5 weeks.

So I’m freaking out a bit and unsure what to do

Leave it or make a gp appointment? If so do I wait Monday or does walk-in centres help with this also? Or just wait for my blood test.

Any help would be great.

Isn't that what PCOS is like?

Mine's all over the shop at the moment, though it's much lighter than it used to be. Some months my cycle is 30+ days, others it's 20 days. I'm early 40s so reckon I am probably perimenopausal - how old are you?

I was like that as a young person (13-34), especially after coming off the pill and after having a baby, then it settled to a more regular pattern and lighter flow. I sympathise with you. Get a referral to a gynaecologist, you may have a hormone imbalance that can be put right easily.

My understanding of the coil is that heavy bleeders are not suitable candidates.

lljkk I'm not sure, she didn't mention it as a possibility.

Kernow I'm 31. I've had 2 kids so it wouldn't be a bad thing if I was perimenopausal Grin

Rebecca thank you for the suggestion. I'll see if I can get myself booked in with one.

I was advised to get the mirena coil which lightens it. Copper coil makes them heavier. We will see though

That's weird. I had a bit of brown when I wiped yesterday afternoon and nothing since Hmm
