Said this about a particularly lazy colleague today and had my immediate neighbour in tears laughing at it!

I'm Scottish and she's English, she claims never to have heard it before!

I'm also Irish and yeah we say turn off the big light!

Hehaw reminds me of this video!

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 21:15

Collybucky is definitely a piggy back! DP and his family call it something else, I’m waiting for DSD to text me back as DP can’t remember now Grin

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 21:16

Skittery cheese Grin

Singingitoverandoverandover · 15/09/2018 21:22

A piggy back , that’s the phrase I was looking for! Struggling to reverse interpret here 😂

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 15/09/2018 21:26

We call it a cuddy back in Dundee

Singingitoverandoverandover · 15/09/2018 21:30

You’re a .. munter/radge/spraff/braw/tidy
And “ that’s shan/youre shan”

Looking peely waly

Totally reeking

And is fizzy juice a Scottish thing? I was in England last month and asked what kinds of fizzy juice they had and she was baffled by “kinds” and corrected me to flavours aswell

Mummatron3000 · 15/09/2018 21:33

My DH calls it a kiddy-cud. He grew up in a village just 3 miles from me. (In Scotland) I call it a kiddy back!
He also says “dingy-woosh” for ignoring someone

Singingitoverandoverandover · 15/09/2018 21:34

Ya fud

Do you want a chum to the shop?

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 21:36

A cuddy back that’s it! Well seen it’s Saturday night and she’s out with her pals, still no reply!

Mummatron3000 · 15/09/2018 21:37

Does anyone know what “baffies” are?
And what is “clarting”?
Grin

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 21:38

Baffies are slippers I’m reliably informed by Angus born DP!

PolkerrisBeach · 15/09/2018 21:38

Understand you perfectly. (am Scottish though)

SilverbytheSea · 15/09/2018 21:39

Aye we use to “dingy” someone as ignore them in southwest coast of Scotland, and cuddy/coley back 🙂

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 21:40

Fizzy juice is definitely a Scottish thing. My English friends crease up when I say it.

Also, a cup of tea/coffee is a cuppy rather than a cuppa in our house, another Angus import I think.

Effiewhaursmabaffies · 15/09/2018 21:47

Married to a Dutch man here, and have found some things to be the same, such as stot which means the same in Dutch. Also they have boodschappen which translates as messages, and they also use it the same as in scots.

Mummatron3000 · 15/09/2018 21:48

@stellacorona another fan of your mum’s books 🙂 I remember when my gran was a teacher, Aileen Paterson visited the school she worked in & my gran got signed books for me & my brother. I’ve loved sharing with my children & my brother is excited about sharing his copy with his newborn baby.
PS I seem to remember that in one book there was a takeaway called “Wun Tun Poo” which my brother & I thought was hilarious as kids Grin

Effiewhaursmabaffies · 15/09/2018 21:49

And the press? Do you put the messages in the press in the scully? I feel homesick now

amusedbush · 15/09/2018 21:49

And is fizzy juice a Scottish thing?

I was getting food in London and the guy at the counter was baffled when I asked what cans of juice they sold.

amusedbush · 15/09/2018 21:50

Collybucky is definitely a piggy back!

It’s a cuddy back where I grew up!

Singingitoverandoverandover · 15/09/2018 22:00

Clype/stop clyping

Singingitoverandoverandover · 15/09/2018 22:02

Forthispostonly · 15/09/2018 22:02

Fizzy juice!? Do you mean ginger?

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 15/09/2018 22:04

Re dingy. Anyone remember the classic Gary Tank Commander when he asked Nicola Sturgeon if she would deal with or dingy Donald Trump? Grin

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 22:05

Ginger is only irn bru isn’t it? Or what passes for it lately after the recipe change

SausageOnAFork · 15/09/2018 22:05

And is fizzy juice a Scottish thing?

Yes. In England juice only refers to the liquid pressed from fruit.
