Not a TAAT , but as part of next year's holiday was thinking about a few days in Naples on way up north. There is so much conflicting information about the place. People seem divided between vile and amazing. Should we go??

Lived there for three years, didn’t know anyone who hadn’t been robbed. People had their pockets picked, bags picked, bags grabbed off the car passenger seat in traffic jams, cars broken into, houses broken into. It can be eye wateringly filthy in places. The rudest people on public transport!! I saw a group of young men push a wee old nun out of the way so they could get on the train before she got off. A little later another group stepped over my infant in his pram rather than let us off first.

We went back for a few days last year. Wandered round the city centre, went to Vesuvius, Pompeii, Capri, had no problems at all.

Some parts are really beautiful. Loads of history. Just be aware of your surroundings.

The other way to combine those things is of course to stay somewhere like Sorrento and take a day trip to Naples. We did that years ago to go to the museum - it was fine, but we didn't take any valuables and (about the only place we've bothered) DH got one of those money belt things.
