Possibly menopausal and shag-mad.

I'm in my early 40s. Investigations for early menopause underway, I shan't bore you with the symptoms, this is more about how I'm feeling.
It's all a bit embarrassing really, but I am just finding myself thinking about sex so much. Distractable isn't the word. The last time I felt like this I was a teenager. I'll be minding my own business, loading the dishwasher, and I'll want sex. I'll be emptying the bins, and I'll be thinking about sex. I'm watching telly and I'm thinking about sex. Which is pretty unsurprising when I'm watching Bodyguard, but a squosh more eyebrow-raisingly-silly when I'm watching the news and it occurs to me that Huw Edwards is a bit tasty in the right light.

I suppose I'm looking for a bit of reassurance, really, and I'm posting in a light hearted manner. Is it normal to be so ridiculous at my age?

Google sex surge. You are not alone.

FloralBunting · 13/09/2018 17:29

Reassuring to know that. I'm not sure I dare Google sex surge, though. Maybe an avoid image search moment.

Grin at finding Huw Edwards a bit tasty in the right light!

Yeah, I have to say that in the cold light of day I was quite disappointed with myself. And then I watched an old Homes Under the Hammer and the same thing happened with that mullet-haired fella on there and I thought, "Yeah, this is getting well out of hand."

Late 40s here. I had this earlier in the year. It was awful. I was rattling for a shag, constantly. It lasted about 3 weeks. 3 looong weeks. Then my sex drive just went back to normal. I presume it was a hormonal thing.

StellaCorona · 13/09/2018 17:37

I think I dimly remember this and wondering if it was the body's last fling at using the fading fertility.

FloralBunting · 13/09/2018 17:38

Yeah, I'm thinking hormonal, because it's so intense. Bloody irritating too, tbh. I'm having saucy dreams, and literally anything leads into a raised heart rate and a few seconds staring into space until I also myself and get on with... squeezing a teabag out, or whatever it is.

Also should have been slap.

Yes. Have experienced this. Very annoying, all I want to do is weed the dandelions or order velvet cushions, but oh no.
Was it a man who likened a sex drive to being shackled to a maniac?

Rebecca36 · 13/09/2018 18:27

Happens to a lot of women in the peri menopausal stage. Some really enjoy it! How do you think so many become pregnant at that age?
Make the most of it while it lasts (it doesn't) - but be careful.

FloralBunting · 13/09/2018 18:51

I'd like to enjoy it. I spent most of my 30s sans sex drive of any description whatsoever, and this kind of lusty appetite would be brilliant if I didn't have so much else to do.
Towels don't get put away, toilets don't get cleaned and buses to work don't get caught by themselves, but they are a lot harder when you're involuntarily having a reverie about Richard Madden's back, or Hugh Edwards being very, very stern with you indeed. Honestly, I was just grating cheese and lost concentration and nearly took the tip of my finger off.

Really, I need to be on an island somewhere, writhing energetically for a few days to get it out of my system. But nooo, buses and cheese graters is where I am.

And just to round off my week of working distractedly, I just told DP I was going up stairs, after making an actual date in the diary for some, er, attention, and I can hear the git snoring on the sofa while I'm sitting in bed.

FFS.
