Have I made DS sick?

It’s night where I am. This morning DP mentioned the expiry date on an unopened bottle of milk was yesterday. He opened it, smelled it and it seemed fine. We had it in our tea and it tasted normal. Then I totally forgot about the it.

I gave DS a cup of it around 8:30am. Around 3-4pm he had a few big cups of it. I wouldn’t normally give him that much but I did today. At dinner time, around 7, he had no appetite. He ate a little and threw up around 8pm.

He’s tired so had a shower and went to sleep with a bit of water to drink before sleep. He said his tummy hurt when he was going to sleep but he said he didn’t feel like he needed to be sick. He’s sleeping now but I can hear his tummy grumbling. He doesn’t have a fever and he was pretty happy between throwing up and getting into bed.

Do you think it was the milk? How badly have I messed up? Sad

Unlikely as you'd taste/smell if the milk was off. How much milk did he drink? Too much could have upset his tummy I suppose.

I very much doubt it was the milk - it would have smelled and tasted off, and even then I doubt it would have done much harm if had drunk it.

Why did he have so much milk - that could have filled him up so he wasn't hungry.
Just because It was past it's date, doesn't make it automatically bad. Probably a bug.

He probably had about 2 cups worth if milk. He’s tall at 5 but I realise it’s too much. He just kept asking for milk and it was a rough day with his twin sisters so I stupidly gave it to him. He was happily rolling around the floor, chasing and whatnot all afternoon.

Thank for replying by the way. I feel awful.

I expect he kept asking for milk because it felt soothing to what was probably feeling like a sore or sicky tummy. I don't think it was the source, I suspect to him it felt like it made things better.

You would be able to tell if it was off. Don't blame your self.

There are always tummy bugs going round at this time of year now schools are back. DS currently has one. Don't blame yourself. You'd both have tasted if the milk was off.

Thanks everyone. I just smelled it and it smells totally fine to me.

2 cups of milk is fine! Be kind to yourself... twins plus a 5 year old? You're doing great. All children have bugs or vomit occasionally with no known cause.
