Phones - too many choices! Help me...

I am in a country where having a phone contract which includes the actual phone is not a thing, you buy the phone and you have a sim contract.

My iPhone SE has broken and I would like to replace it with a dual sim android phone and spend around £300 but there are just too many and I have phone blindness.

I have seen Samsung J6 or A6, Huawei P10 or Xuaomi Mi A2 or Mix and the differences are so subtle I can't compare them. I would like to switch between a UK sim and an in country one, I'd like to be able to browse the web, and I'd like to take decent photos.

Any experience or recommendations would be brilliant.

isn't the Huawei one the dogsbollocks for photography? Pretty sure dh has one of your Samsung choices and it is a dreadful camera.

It's def a Huawei I was pondering for my next phone...roll on May! I really want a camera that takes calls, rather than a phone that photographs!

I’m thinking of the p10 for my next phone if that’s the camera one , it looks good. Always been a Samsung s person, currently got an s8 I think, maybe an s7. I’m used to the Samsung layout, camera is ok but not great.

NicoAndTheNiners · 13/09/2018 11:38

Oh I think it’s the p20 I’m thinking of.

BearSoFair · 13/09/2018 11:39

I absolutely the Huawei I had, it was slow beyond belief and they keyboard used to randomly disappear in the middle of typing a message, I'd personally never buy another of their phones however it was a few years ago so maybe they've improved.
I've had a Samsung A3 2015 then an A3 2017 since and love them, DH has an S8 and also loves it, so I'd always lean towards Samsung going forwards I think, can't comment specifically on the A6 or J6 though.

BearSoFair · 13/09/2018 11:39

That should say absolutely hated the Huawei I had!

DH has the huawei P20 lite after using iPhone for several years. He seems to really like it, it’s a nice looking phone too.

OlafLovesAnna · 13/09/2018 11:51

Brilliant - thank you.

I liked the look of the Huawei P20 but I don't really want to spend £600, the Lite could be an option though. What didn't you like about it those who didn't get on with it?

yes, it's the 20 for the superwanky camera :o You are right though it's pricey af, atm!

I have an XperiaXA1 atm, which is supposed to be fabulous, but it's not all that.

I had the Huawei p9 for a while and I really liked it - I've got the s8+ now just because I wanted a bigger screen. I think I'll be looking at Huawei again when its time for me to upgrade as I never had any problems with them and the cameras are really good.

BertieBotts · 13/09/2018 12:04

I'm not keen on Samsung any more. I've got the A3 2017 and the cache on it has a memory leak making it unusable without a memory card. I really dislike that they have blocked you from viewing the maintenance settings and put this silly fake optimiser software on it, there is also a lot of auto-downloading bloatware I am forever turning off.

But the battery life is good.

I used to find the in depth reviews on GSMArena to be helpful when I worked in a phone shop.

AuntieGeek · 13/09/2018 13:36

OnePlus range is very good. I'm thinking about upgrading to the OnePlus 6 whilst I'm typing from the OnePlus 3. Best phone I've owned.

OlafLovesAnna · 13/09/2018 16:32

I saw the OnePlus 6 too. Do you know how it compares to the Xiomi Mi Mix 2?

Does everything you need it to do but a shed load cheaper.
