DS red hot knee - do I need to worry?

Currently on hold to 111 so thought I'd ask on here while I'm waiting! DS has had a slightly painful knee since the beginning of the week. Today he said he squeezed loads of pus out at school in the toilets at lunchtime Envy . It feels a bit hot and looks a bit red and swollen. Not loads. Any ideas?

Sounds like its infected and he needs some antibiotics. Probably best to see a Dr sooner rather than later as you don't want the infection to go into the joint.

Sounds like he might have an infection. Trip to the GP I think

SockQueen · 12/09/2018 16:43

Needs to be seen today. Urgent GP or UCC/A&E if you can't get an appointment. It might just be a superficial skin infection which is easily treated, but if it goes into the knee joint it can be very serious indeed.

If it's red and hot to the touch, it could be cellulitis, and needs sorting out asap!

LondonLassInTheCountry · 12/09/2018 16:50

Puss out of what? A spot? A bite? Scratch?

fishfingersandketchup · 12/09/2018 16:59

Thanks for the replies. Off to the GP now.

Glad he's been seen and sorted. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in fast for him

fishfingersandketchup · 12/09/2018 19:30

Thank you. He's completely fine in himself, so wasn't sure if I was over reacting, everyone's advice to get to the doctors was very helpful. I have to say the surgery were brilliant, we were seen and home with the antibiotics within the hour with a follow up appointment on Friday.
