Has anyone resprayed a bike? How hard is it?

Long story but basically I’m not rich and DS needs a new bike. I want to give his old bike to DD as it’s a perfect size for her and in great condition, but they don’t really get on. So, I was thinking of giving it a spray job. Just wondering how hard it is or if anyone has any tips.

Spraying a bike can be a fiddly job, either masking the parts you don't want sprayed, or removing them. Careful brush painting is easier. Unless you have a ' pet' spray person nearby.

Dead easy! Masking tape and newspaper are your friends. My parents used to do it to sell our old bikes, and I’ve done it a couple of times too. Please don’t use a brush, it’ll look terrible!

Watch a video on youtube it'll give you an idea how fiddly and annoying it is to do properly

Posted too soon🙄 Make sure you wipe down and degrease all the parts you’re spraying with methylated spirits

i spray painted metal bunkbeds...lots of fiddly bits! My recommendations would be lots of fine spray layers, don't try to do it in one or two coats...thinking four or five minimum
and do it on the lawn...I propped the bed heads up on bricks, blue grass is hysterically amusing, but a whip over with the lawn mower and you are grand!

My brother resprayed his old BMX when it was passed onto me- he was 11 and it looked AMAZING! I was only 9 though so maybe my standards were low. It was sliver and electric blue.
