Grey window frames - would you?

DH has his heart set on them but I’m worried it’s a fad.

Yes they look great but so did those criss-crossy leaded ones at the time.

It’s a big investment for us.

Advice appreciated.

I wouldn't - I think they'll date hugely and they look depressing. We have quite a few houses with them around us.

I really like them, but everything changes over time, as you say.
However, we're living in the here and now, so yes, I would install them.

Peridot1 · 12/09/2018 10:05

I like them. Depending on the house. Yes they will date. But so does everything.

I wouldn't.

Bubblemagic11 · 12/09/2018 10:17

No I wouldn’t , our neighbour have them, it doesn’t look very nice

lizzie1970a · 12/09/2018 10:19

Depends on the style of the house. Not on something Edwardian or Victorian but 1960s upwards possibly. I wouldn't buy a house with brown window frames, can't stand them. To be on the safe side I'd stick with white.

Neshoma · 12/09/2018 11:38

Yuck, no.

Everyone around us seems to be getting them. That and rendering the outside of their houses (because grey doesn't go with brick colour).

Dowser · 12/09/2018 11:41

No
Clean, bright white all the way for me
Brown is horrible

tillytop · 12/09/2018 11:42

No I wouldn't. Won't they look like grubby window frames?

getoffthathistoricrelic · 12/09/2018 12:42

No grey always looks like undercoat awaiting its finishing topcoat. I work for an interiors company and grey is very much over.

AdoreTheBeach · 12/09/2018 12:54

You can always gave them sprayed white or another colour if the fad moves on to something else. I just went with my DH choice for grey bifolds. I have also painted frames in the past and it lasted years (painted silver frames white).
