Tightening straps on infant car seat

Can anyone offer any tips?

Without DD in the seat the straps adjust easily, but as soon as she's in there they just won't tighten. Is there a knack?

Just in case it makes a difference it's a Mothercare Maine infant car seat, but the mechanism looks the same as other infant seats I've seen.

She is 16 months but well under the 13kg weight limit at around 9kg.

Ooh.. I have same car seat but haven’t put DD in it... are you sure they need to be tightened any further?

Yes they definitely need to be tighter. You should only be able to fit two fingers under the straps at the shoulders.

We don't have a problem with her normal car seat. This is a spare we use when traveling with other people.

Could she be lying on the straps, if they maybe need to be put higher so they come down on her shoulders rather than up and over if they’re too low? (If that makes sense)

I've got the straps on the highest setting. Maybe she's too tall for the seat. It's weird though as she wears 9-12 sleepsuits and 6-9 all other clothes so she's not taller than average for her weight!

Hmm I’m not sure then, could you take it into mothercare for them to have a look at? It could be a fault or something simple with the design of the seat, I’d definitely get it checked though!
