Am I crazy leaving my job for bank work??

Hi I currently work 30 odd hours a week on minimum wage at a care home. Been there 8 years.

I applied to work at the hospital as a bank care assistant and I've been offered the job, it's more money but a 0 hour contract, I've got 2 young children so I like the flexibility but now I'm nervous I've made the wrong choice,

Anyone done the same?

I have a different job to you but had the same choice. In my area of work I was aware that they are always short staffed so I knew there would be plenty of work. I've been doing it since 2010 and never been out of work so it was definitely the right choice for me.

My only question would be, do you have a mortgage? I rent so I knew that, worst case scenario, I could claim HB if it didn't pan out (not a long term solution but I knew I wouldn't be homeless!).

I rent too and also my husband works full time too so as much as my wage is important I'm not the main earner

In that case do it! I love the flexibility and the extra money. It's a win win! The only other thing is I believe there are pension implications? It's not something that's an issue for me and I'm sure there's other options. Just something to factor in may be. But I think overall it is a better option for you.

I’d do it! And not sure on the situation where you are, but there’s always jobs for care assistants in our local hospital, so bank may be the foot in the door to something more permanent. If you get the chance, I’d take it- pension, sick pay, holiday and even the chance to do more qualifications. Good luck!
