Travelling with baby

Off to Canary Islands soon with a six month old

We can take two baby items on the plane. I'm going to buy a very cheap or second hand lightweight stroller for out and about but not sure about a car seat. We have bus transfers from airport. I really don't like the idea of getting taxis etc without a car seat but if I take a cheap one, I don't know what we'd do with it at the other end of journeys? (Say we get a taxi to town for the evening - car seat too heavy to carry very far and we'd have pushchair)

Also thinking of taking travel cot as second item instead, but then the mattress is huge. I have seen fold up ones. The alternative is to trust hotel cot and mattress to be safe and reasonable

Please let me know if you have any tips!

I just did a trip and didn't take a car seat, we relied on the taxi one. It was horrendous. The seat was disgusting and old. It was forward facing and the taxi driver didn't know how to even close it. We weren't needing to take taxis in the evening, just to and from the airport, but I've said there's no way I'm ever going away again without our car seat.

We found a sling to be brilliant (but then we use one all the time in the UK anyway), and Milton sterilising wipes essential.
