Advice for my first time long road trip !

I passed my driving test over a month ago and am getting on well in my car. I’m potentially going to do a two hour journey in October for a weekend away for my birthday. I’m planning to avoid the motorway routes.

If anyone has any advice or tips it would be much appreciated!

You’ve passed your test, you have the skill, the knowledge, the licence. Just use your new found freedom and go for it!

And don’t avoid motorways! If you feel it would give you confidence book a special Motorway driving lesson, or go out on a motorway with someone you trust, or practice on dual carriageways.

You didn’t pass your test to city fine yourself to A roads!

Go to the loo before you set out, tell yourself that you can stop any time and every time you like, no pressure, it isn’t a competition or a race. Far less stressful than taking your test, under scrutiny!

Enjoy your birthday.

‘Confine ‘ not ‘city fine ‘

Don't avoid the motorways but get on the road nice and early.
Don't rely entirely on Sat Nav - look at a good old fashioned map before you go so you have some idea of what roads you should be looking out for and the distance in between junctions.
Make yourself a road trip playlist with two hours worth of good tracks!

Thank you all! Unfortunately I’ve got to leave straight from work so I’ll hit rush hour but may get a little head start as my works literally next to one of the main roads so I’ll be off straight away with that one.

I’ve got a road atlas in my car just now looking at the best routes to go !
