I've been sat in A&E for 13 hours, come and cheer me up please

I've been sat in a corridor for 13 hours. I'm being admitted for a CT scan and lumbar puncture and I'm crapping my pants as I may have an aneurism.

The staff are amazing and are run ragged. A lovely lady has just brought us hot chocolate and a sandwich. There are no beds so I'm expecting to be here until lunchtime.

I'm on my own, I have no overnight stuff and no one to bring it as my boyfriend is looking after my daughter. If I'd have thought I'd be staying in I'd have been much more organised.

My contact lenses are killing me and I can't see without them! I know I'm being a miserable cow and there are others far worse off than me but I'm fed up ☹️

Oh no! I hope you are not too uncomfortable. Is there anyone else in your corridor to chat to?

Be careful of your eyes. I haven’t worn contacts for years but I seem to remember falling asleep with them in was a mistake.

thecatfromjapan · 11/09/2018 04:23

I'm awake.

Do you need distracting?

Have you read the 'Have you shagged Boris Johnson?' Thread?

And 💐

tinytemper66 · 11/09/2018 04:31

Aw no. I broke my ankle ice skating ⛸ on Friday on a school trip and an off work for two weeks and can't drive for 8. I still can't believe I did it.
So inelegant- on my bum up and down stairs and as for trying to get out of the house for fracture clinic....
I must remember that I am past 50!
Hope you are ok and can be given a bed ASAP x

OhTheRoses · 11/09/2018 05:05

Could you get a mini cab to go to your house and collect some stuff?

bumblingbovine49 · 11/09/2018 05:27

Oh poor you how awful i hope you are managing to get some sleep.

I would ask about your contacts. The last thing you want is an eye infection on top of everything.

Is your boyfriend dropping your child at school/childcare soon ? If so can you call/text him to bring you the basics as soon as he has done that

My essential ist would be:

Glasses/contacts & solution
Phone charger
Bottle of water and snacks
Change of undewear
Pyjamas
Ear plugs (essential in hospital for sleep)
Toothbrush and toothpaste, soap and a small towel and a moisturiser
Something to read

So sorry you are going through this

LucheroTena · 11/09/2018 05:31

The nurses will have some saline solution and a couple of sterile pots you can put your contacts in. Sympathies. Hope all ok.

Bluesheep8 · 11/09/2018 05:52

Sorry to hear you're in hospital op. I came to suggest saline aswell for your lenses. That way, even without your glasses you can take them out and soak them for a while and put them back in. Best wishes. Also, be careful moving around after a lumbar puncture, you need to lie flat for a good period of time after. Only saying that because I was told I could go home shortly after mine (think they needed the bed) and was quite unwell. Flowers

deepsea · 11/09/2018 05:57

You poor thing. No fun at all being in this position. Speak to the nurse about your contact lenses. I would take them out hun.

I hope a friend or your boyfriend can come soon, you will feel a lot better with some new contact lenses and comforts.

deepsea · 11/09/2018 05:58

Yes I would second the lying flat after the lumbar puncture and allow yourself to 'equalise' otherwise it can cause headaches.

Really hope you get some good news and will soon be well Flowers

AjasLipstick · 11/09/2018 06:20

If you start to feel poorly, please ask for a trolley to lie on. Make sure you don't sit there and suffer. Not with an aneurism suspected!

smurfy2015 · 11/09/2018 07:15

are you still needing distraction?

smurfy2015 · 11/09/2018 07:28

I know pillows are scarce in a hospital but ask for one to try and rest your head against the wall, or hug it for a bit of comfort. this is really hard.

I know you might be trying to save battery but if you see this, a&e sometimes have a box of chargers that can let you access (thats my experience anyhow) -

As a result if I am going for an appointment at the hospital after having been a recent admit, I usually buy a couple of chargers and leave them in a&e for future patients, along with biccys and stuff for staff

Hope you get a bed really soon, even to lie on in a&e

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 11/09/2018 08:28

17 hours now, still no bed, nurse just dismissed me when I asked what might happen today. In fact she was quite off with me.

I've got my lenses in saline though 😁

Blinking heck lass!

If you are okay saying which hospital I'll happily come and bring you stuff.

Womaningreen · 11/09/2018 08:33

OP how are you feeling?

17 hours has shocked me!

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 11/09/2018 09:36

Thing is I don't feel unwell at the moment. The headaches are brought on by ahem sex!

The consultant said it doesn't matter if I don't feel unwell, it's still serious. So I have to sit it out.

My partner is a chef so is in work, so this is a logistical nightmare with an 11 year old.

Womaningreen · 11/09/2018 09:49

Oh I see

I feel like you ought to be lying down though.

squeekyhead · 11/09/2018 12:50

Are you still waiting? Hope it is not too long until something happens and you can see that something is happening or you can get some sleep.

tinytemper66 · 11/09/2018 12:55

How are you this lunchtime? X

smurfy2015 · 15/09/2018 05:05

Hope you got sorted and are OK op

Ouch
