Cambridge for the day

For long and complicated reasons I’ll be on my own in Cambridge for some of the day on Sunday.
I’ve been shopping in Cambridge a number of times so am somewhat familiar with it.

Any suggestions what I could do in central Cambridge, including lunch?

Botanical Gardens, Fitzwilliam Museum. Lunch depends on.what you like to eat.

Fitzbillies for lunch and a wander round some of the Colleges?

I’m veggie but I’m guessing that’ll be catered for in most places. Something light really rather an a full on Sunday lunch.

Botanical gardens is worth a look, not really in the centre but walking distance.
For a snack try Eat - on the corner of Lion Yard, does soup and nice sandwiches.
If you want something a bit more substantial try Cote at the other end of town.

British Antarctic survey museum

What do you like doing? Galleries, museums, walking in the countryside, shopping in antique shops, etc?

Fishywishyhead · 11/09/2018 08:16

The museum of zoology is amazing but Cambridge is a stunning place just to walk around aimlessly.

For vegetarians there’s the rainbow cafe opposite king’s college and stem cafe over by Jesus college.

Jacks Gelato near the famous Eagle pub is the best ice cream ever.

If you're vegetarian, go to Rainbow Cafe on kings parade. Down a little alley set back opposite kings college.

Also kettle's yard Art gallery.

UrbaneSprawl · 11/09/2018 08:54

Kettle’s Yard is fab. The house, rather than the gallery, is the best bit for me. While you’re there, pop next door to St Peter’s Church (they always used to keep the key behind the desk in the shop at the gallery, though this might have changed...), then climb the mound of the old castle outside Shire Hall for a great view of the city.

I would also suggest Evensong at King’s College Chapel, but don’t know whether it will be happening as term hasn’t started.

Another vote for the Rainbow Cafe, or Stem and Glory. The cafe at Kettle's Yard is also good. Don't go to Fitzbillies for lunch, you just need one of their Chelsea buns.

DorothyGarrod · 11/09/2018 10:43

Stem and Glory is much nicer than the Rainbow academy IMO!
