Will Chat start to become more used now threads won’t be deleted?

I (and others, I suspect) post in AIBU for the traffic and because the threads are archived. Just seen an update and it appears threads in Chat will no longer be deleted from November and those that want theirs gone afterwards should post in ‘90 days only’ forum instead. Will this see a decline in people posting Chat topics in AIBU do you think? (I was going to post this in AIBU but thought it would be taking the piss).

Many people prefer threads in chat because they are deleted. There'll probably be a boost to 90 Days. I didn't know people posted in AIBU to keep chatty threads. I suppose some posters might.

I think Chat will be used less. Most stuff here doesn't need to be kept and if it does you can ask MNHQ to move it.

More people will go to 90 days or less and inane drivel will be kept forever more.

It's a shame people post anything and everything in AIBU.

FuzzyCustard · 10/09/2018 20:22

I agree that Chat will be used less. One of the things I liked about it is that it is transient.

OneTooManyMornings · 10/09/2018 20:26

I don't post a lot but when I do it's mainly in Chat because it will disappear.

I'll probably mostly go to the 30 days and 90 days when Chat threads become permanent.

TBH I think those who search out a poster's history, say in AIBU are those with issues.

Most people just post in threads they are interested in/ angry about lol. and rarely think of the footprint they are leaving behind.

Sensitive stuff will be fine for those who have thought it through in 30/90 days.

But it needs to be headlined VERY forcibly that Chat will not result in a 90 day deletion. I doubt many are aware of this really.

keyboardkate · 10/09/2018 20:42

Oh, and does anyone know WHY Chat will have no 90 day restriction before deletion? I wonder who decided that.

Would be very interested in the reasoning behind it. If anyone knows! Thank you.

I think It’s for the reason I said: that people are posting in AIBU to archive their posts and they may want to have less pointless posts to that section? Though I don’t know. There’s been loads of good and funny threads posted in Chat that have been lost and rather than have it awkwardly created into an AIBU I welcome them to be posted normally in Chat!
