Colin the caterpillars M&S

Does anyone know if there is a cheaper version of these I'm not aware of or similar that could substitute a piece of birthday cake as ready made individual portions?

I think I read that M&S do 5 for £2 in store which is fine until it's 50 odd kids

Doesn't have to be a caterpillar just some kind of animal like a worm/hedgehog etc

You can order big packs of Colins which are a little cheaper: www.marksandspencer.com/25-mini-colin-the-caterpillar/p/p60164899

Since they’re basically just mini rolls, another option would be to buy 50 mini rolls, sprinkles and some decorating bits and just make your own? I’m sure I’ve seen ideas on Pinterest.

My Sparks app has £5 off when you spend £25 but if theyre £2 for 5, the ordering one are actually more expensive.

I saw that on a programme once, just about everything in the m&s food to order catalogue can be bought more cheaply in the shop and unless you're buying a huge amount, they're likely to have what you need in stock. Eg the OP needs 10 packs of Colins which most shops should have in, and many will have more than one M&S locally. I could go to 4 without much bother and there's at least 2 more in the city centre.

Both Morrison's and Sainsbury's do knock off versions

Those just look like mini rolls, you could just buy a couple of packs of those and decorate yourself? Stick a percy pig face on each with a bit of icing? :)

BarbaraofSevillle · 10/09/2018 18:33

Now that's a good idea Wax. I was going to say that I can't see the OP decorating them herself saving much, but if you can get chocolate mini rolls at Aldi or Lidl, pack of Percy Pigs and icing, it should work out cheaper, but I'd do the sums first, no idea how much non colin mini rolls cost.

M&S have special MacMillan coffee morning Colins in for September, don't know what's different about them, just thought I'd mention it for the many Colin fans on here.

Having tried the M&S, Sainsbury’s and Tesco versions of this cake I would say that the Tesco one is the tastiest, so if it’s also cheaper I’d go for that one!

Tesco seem to have the cadburys mini rolls at 75p for a pack of 5, so £7.50 for 10 packs and a couple of quid for a squeezy thing of icing and maybe some hundreds and thousands. A couple of packs of Percy's would be how much?

ponderingonthings · 10/09/2018 21:00

Percy pigs on rolls are an amazing idea thank you!!!

Aww shucks! :) I'm sure there must be other sweeties with faces too, did I see fake Percy pigs in sainsburys maybe?
