Build a Bear for 7 year old DS?

MsMiaWallace · 10/09/2018 13:52

I've x2 DS's birthdays within days of each other. One is going to be 7 this year the other 4.
I thought a trip to build a bear would be a good joint thing for birthdays.
Would build a bear be to 'babyish' for a 7 year old?
We've not been before.
DS says he'd like it but DH reckons to young for 7 year old?

He might enjoy the process of actually making the bear (or whatever other animal he chooses) but a few days afterwards, the teddy will probably be collecting dust. Half the fun of Build a Bear is getting accessories for it (future Christmas and birthday presents), changing its outfits, caring for it, playing with it etc.... which I can't imagine a 7yo boy doing. He might appreciate going to a pottery cafe and painting a plate and mug perhaps.

I would say yes definitely too young.

I would do separate birthday trips unless they want to do something together.

i agree with ricekrispie22 , perhaps try a pottery painting cafe. soft play is always a hit too, as long as its large enough for the oldest to have lots to do. also, the www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do/geffrye-museum-3 has lots of things to do for all ages. there are workshops on the weekends for kids, and going out on the train is a big treat for them too!

My very old for his years (he has a teenage brother!) DS2 is 7 and absolutely loves his Build a Bear. He changes him into his PJ's every night and tucks him into his BAB sleeping bag next to him while he sleeps.

My dd invited a boy to her build a bear party for her 8th birthday and he enjoyed it but I think he’d be in a minority amongst her class (at least in public!)

NotTakenUsername · 10/09/2018 19:08

My Dd is 8 and loves her buildabear.

Is it your ds who wouldn’t like it, or your dh trying to ‘grow him up’ a bit too fast?

Dd got told to hide her bear by a friend because the older neighbourhood kids might laugh. She was truely baffled that she should care. (Love that kid! Smile)

He’s only 7.

No way is a 7 year old too old for Buildabear. My 9 year old even still loves them.

CleverQuacks · 10/09/2018 19:46

My 7 year old boy is desperate to go to build a bear so I don’t think he is to old.

Boysnme · 10/09/2018 19:48

My 7 year old ds love bra build a bear. As does my 9 year old but he won’t admit it!

Boysnme · 10/09/2018 19:48

Oops - ds loves build a bear!

TeenTimesTwo · 10/09/2018 19:54

7 is not too old. e.g. they have toothless dragons and pikachus (or they used to have).

Personally I think b-a-b is only one step away from hell. But my DD2 loved it.

tryingtocatchthewind · 10/09/2018 20:10

Oh not at all, my almost 7 yo DS begs to go all the time. Has loads of bears in his bed and still carries a blanket around with him!

oldbirdy · 10/09/2018 20:13

In my experience 6/7 is peak teddy time for boys. My DS had a build a bear type party for his 6th and still has his bear (he's almost 17!) In his little t- shirt. I think he might surprise you by enjoying it very much.
