Has anyone ditched their smartphone?

Am very tempted to buy a cheapy phone and ditch my smartphone!

Am sick of wasting my time fannying around on it when I could be doing something better with my time I know I could just leave it in another room or something but will be too easy to get back into the habit of it being glued to my hand alot!

Has anyone done it?

I did, it felt good until I tried to send a text. Amazing what you forget how to do. I didn't have the patience to relearn the button pushing.

MrsMotherHen · 10/09/2018 10:23

the buttons wont bother me so much I think am ordering one right now.

I didnt ditch the phone but I went on a complete sm sabbatical, which was very good for the soul I must admit. It was during a rather trying time and all the happy (yet fake) couples pictures etc just annoyed the crap out of me.

So I deleted all the apps, twitter, facebook, insta etc so none were accessible from my phone.

I can recommend it.

Just about to. Have an iPad so no need for a smart phone. Not being connected to the net 24/7 is gonna be great

MrsMotherHen · 10/09/2018 10:46

I have just ordered a £15 pound nokia from EBay very basic not even a camera! Bloody brilliant!

Not exactly ditched it but had one bought for me by husband two Christmases ago and didn't want it. I stick to my old Nokia. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've no use for fancy stuff, don't want to pick up emails on my phone or the like. My phone is used for making and receiving phone calls only.

The gift was kindly meant but I had expressed prior to Christmas that I had no wish to change my phone and wasn't going to be bullied into it. So it went back to the shop with no hard feeling.

(I have a spare 'old' Nokia in case my one packs up.)

I am very tempted to do this but am in a LDR and we mostly text throughout the day using WhatsApp...

MrsMotherHen · 10/09/2018 14:22

@starryeyed19 just use normal texts

I've never owned a smart phone and have no desire to start at all.

I feel a lot less visible, available and connected than basically everyone else in the world. I love it.

I use my phone for texting people and taking calls from people who refuse to call my landline Angry and that's it. It's PAYG and costs me about £50 a year.

starryeyed19 · 10/09/2018 17:11

@MrsMotherHen My partner likes using WhatsApp so 🤷🏽‍♀️

specialsubject · 10/09/2018 18:14

never had one , nasty fragile high maintenance bricks - who needs it? love my charge every fortnight tiny samsung.

have a tablet and laptop at home ( where I work) - internet outside the house would be awful.

I'm still old school with my old nokia! Many a boyfriend have tried to change me but i'm very happy thank you. Can txt and call and use my lap top in the eves for social media etc. I charge it once a week and it lasts all week!

vanillapieandicecream · 10/09/2018 18:48

I would love to but use Whatsapp to communicate with my family as we are spread over different countries.

If there is a phone that just does Whatsapp, I'd love to know!

Vitalogy · 10/09/2018 18:58

I don't have a smart phone. I have no access to the internet when not at home. Suits me, I don't need it in my life all the time, I do enough at home as is.

starryeyed19 · 10/09/2018 19:11

And I use mine for sat nav too - has anyone figured out an alternative?

Millybingbong · 10/09/2018 19:14

I've started leaving mine downstairs at bedtime and it has broken the addiction. This morning I didn't look at it till after the school run! Then I remembered it with a jolt.

Sleep mich better and I don't wake up thinking about what I need to buy off amazon :)

A sat nav? Grin

Itsmeaga1n · 10/09/2018 23:33

vanillapie I'm the same. I wish I could get rid of my smart phone but I need it to keep in touch with my adult kids and other family members.

isthismylifenow · 11/09/2018 08:34

Vanilla you could just delete all the other apps from your phone and leave WA on.

This is what I did.
