Swollen hand

I am after some opinions as I am doubting myself this morning.
DS age 12 woke up with several bites yesterday morning after a night in bed with the window open. No problems all day yesterday. This morning he has woken with a very swollen right hand which feels hot to touch where the actual bite is. It is only painful when touched but just tight with the swelling.
I have given piriton and offered Calpol which he has refused.
Am I ok to send him to school, go to work and take him to be seen later this afternoon or is that terrible parenting. Should this be looked at this morning?
To clarify I am going to consult a medical professional just can't decide if it is ok to wait until later. Thank you.
