How do you remember what's going on in your friends'/acquaintances/neighbours'/family's lives?

My memory is not what it was and life is very busy with a family, a part time university course and full time employment. Quite a number of my friends/acquaintances are going through major stuff, e.g. cancer, strokes, horrible accidents, etc. I am struggling to remember to keep tabs on people, make sure they know I'm thinking of them, and sometimes I realise two weeks have passed and I haven't been in touch to see if a friend going through chemo needs me, or what's the latest on a work colleagues' sick parents...

I have started thinking I need to keep some sort of notes/journal/spreadsheet, but this makes me feel a bit phoney. I just don't know how other people do it!! How do you?

Notes in my phone: ask L about hosp appt, R's op today etc. I put them in the calendar.

Keep reminders with a one week refresh on your calendar for people going through big stuff. One month refresh for small stuff. Birthdays of course, but remember to coo over babies on a regular basis. DGS is one of three third cousins born in the same week, which is nice but hard to schedule around.
