Alexa recipes - mayonnaise in a crumble?

I was making crumble earlier and thought I'd ask Alexa for a recipe to find out the quantities of flour, sugar and butter for the topping. She told me I needed flour, sugar, walnuts and Hellmann's real mayonnaise!

Needless to say I just got the Delia book out of the cupboard.

Has anyone had other weird recipe suggestions from Alexa?

Has anyone actually made crumble with mayonnaise? Maybe it works if you want it to be dairy free?

Apparently it's right. Weird. But right. Perhaps Hellmans give Amazon a backhander?....

I've seen cake recipes that include mayonnaise, which makes sense because it is egg and fat, which cakes usually include. However, there's no egg in crumble topping, so this seems a weird suggestion. I can only think it's off the Hellmans website and it's one of those spurious inclusions designed to sell more of their products.

Well I've always wondered where Alexa gets her information from and it sounds like she can't be trusted. If I need to know something, I'd google it and make sure I got a consensus from a variety of sources, so it doesn't sound like I'd get on with asking a device that looks on the website that pays Apple/Amazon/Google/Whichever one is the Alexa overlord the most without any guarantee of accuracy or impartiality.

Sounds like when when Rachel in Friends got the recipe book pages stuck together and put meat in the Thanksgiving trifle to me!

I did think I might have misheard at first and that friends episode also came to mind Smile

On a similar note, my best mate and I are planning a trip to Varanasi, in India, at some point in the future. We thought it might be a good idea to find out what language is spoken there, so we could learn a bit before going. So - we asked Alexa 'what language is spoken in Varanasi?'. She replied - 'Burnham on Sea is a town in Somerset, England. The language spoken there is English'.

I'm just glad you can't book flights through Alexa (yet!).

has mayonnaise. At first it seems weird, but mayonnaise is just eggs and oil.
