So if the message has 2 ticks and is grey it's been sent and not read?

But person is online is there anyway they can have read the message and left it grey or have they definitely not read it ?

I can preview across the top of my screen. So I have read it but not clicked on WA. So would be two grey ticks.

My DH does it but I know the fucker has read it

If they were online reading someone else's message they might not have noticed yours, particularly if yours came through whilst they were reading or typing another message.

Or it is possible that they have chosen not to read it yet for whatever reason.

WeakAsIAm · 09/09/2018 18:10

No it's automatic the minute they go into your message it will turn blue, if you hold down your message you can select info and see what time their phone received the message and what time they read it.
If they don't go in it it will stay grey.
If it's a short message (say one line ) tho they can probably see what you've said without opening

QuirkyKate · 09/09/2018 18:10

Haha - ditto!

I also have a preview that flashes up the message. That way I can read it - or the first 2 sentences of it - without it showing the blue ticks. I loathe the Big Brother-ness of it all.

I would suggest that the recipient has their settings so that s/he can’t be seen online and when messages have been read but as you say they’re online, this is irrelevant.

TooTiredToBeCreative · 09/09/2018 18:11

You can select to not have the ticks turn blue to show the message had been read in settings.

Believeitornot · 09/09/2018 18:12

I think you can turn on airplane mode, read the message, then turn it back off again without registering blue ticks.

However I suggest not stalking or second guessing via whatsapp.... just let people read a message in their own time.

Oh brilliant , thanks everyone, I love how helpful you all are except the suggestion to stop stalking Grin
