What does single parent actually mean?

I always thought single parent meant you raised your child alone. Friend says it means single status relationship wise. So she says she isn't a single parent as she has a long term partner, but they don't live together. I would call her a single parent as the child's father doesn't have any input. I'm doubting myself now! How would you define it?

No input is a 'lone parent'. A single parent just refers to their relationship status.
