Telltale signs of someone who's off their face on coke?

VladmirsPoutine · 08/09/2018 22:33

What would these be? I'm fairly good at recognising people that are wasted on alcohol; the slurring, the weird sort of honesty and imbalance when they walk. And for one or two reasons I can spot an alcoholic who is hiding it well; a functional alcoholic, if you will.

But with coke what would it be? I suspect this of someone close to me but don't necessarily want to make any judgements as such just yet. When someone is drunk it's easy to spot but I'm not aware of what someone off their face on coke would necessarily be like, speaking very fast and rubbing their nose a lot?

And yes I was aware it was utter boring shite. But I still had to say it. Very embarrassed

StrangeLookingParasite · 09/09/2018 00:00

Pinprick pupils is a good sign.

That one's opiates, not cocaine.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/09/2018 00:13

Being more of a cock than they were 5 mins ago.

So this. Plus chewy mouth motions.

MargotLovedTom1 · 09/09/2018 00:17

Clenching jaw, glittery eyes, talking A LOT with lots of fidgeting.

CherryCherryCherry · 09/09/2018 00:20

Why are you asking OP? Someone you suspect or you trying to hide it? (last ones a joke btw)

Leavesofautumn · 09/09/2018 00:28

Arrogance and thinking they're more important than everyone else.

safariboot · 09/09/2018 00:30

I've shown most of these symptoms at times and I've never touched cocaine Hmm.

ShesABelter · 09/09/2018 00:32

I know lots of people who take coke.

They tend to be the people who despite drinking loads, don't appear to get drunker. Or if someones pretty drunk then appears to suddenly sober up a fair bit.

Can't say they ever have it round their nose, most are more aware.

They gibber on and on confidently, this is a dead give away if the persons not normally like that, often dominating the convo and talking about themselves.

They never seem to tire as the night goes on.

They disappear to smoke lots and end up chatting for ages to anyone they can grab.

May keep disappearing to toilet and taking much longer than the average pee would. If you go in after. Wipe the top of the cistern or toilet seat or another flat surface that could be used to take a line, for reside. Although they could be doing keys.

I'd say the majority don't gouch or chew their cheeks. That's more mdma and ecstasy but there's a few guys i know who do.

Huge pupils, they may comment they gave a dry mouth. May appear sweaty as the heart rates increased so much and the core temp usually as a result.

PickAChew · 09/09/2018 00:34

Looking a little paranoid.

I bumped onto the person with exactly the above descriptions, this afternoon, right down to badly trying to look nonchalant while rubbing her gums.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/09/2018 00:50

@CherryCherryCherry Not me Grin though I have at times been guilty of some of the things described. I suspect my friend is on this road and I wondered what the telltale signs are. I am very familiar with alcoholics for one or two reasons, but coke-heads aren't something I've really ever come across as such in such a way.

But I sometimes gurn, and talk a lot - sometimes the light is very bright so my iris' shrink.. I'm not on coke.

Extremely chatty, wiping their nose/Snooking a bit, sometimes gritting or tapping their teeth, sore lips, blinking a lot, slightly large pupils

LemonysSnicket · 09/09/2018 01:18

Oh and rejecting any and all food

Samantha2018 · 09/09/2018 01:26

The jaw!

serbska · 09/09/2018 08:27

@ShesABelter has a good list.

I would say you’re unlikely to find any residue or a cleaned surface. Generally people that like doing coke regularly don’t fuck about with lines in toilets (takes too long, bit gross) and will have it pre-crushed/sieved and use a vial with a spoon type thing, or vial with a one hitter.

I was in this situation in the summer and honestly I didn't have a bloody clue anything was up until things got so bad for the person concerned that they took money from my purse. I didn't notice anything odd about the eyes, there was a weird midnight feast when they stayed the night but had eaten hardly anything at supper. And odd behaviour which I put down to drunkenness, but it wasn't quite right. The money problems as in no money to do anything and just strange behaviour - every time the same story was told it came out slightly differently so it ended up you didn't know what to believe. Then said person was caught stealing at work and everything unravelled. I haven't seen them since. I still don't want to see them, I don't know if that will change, but I feel I was used by them.

PoshPenny · 09/09/2018 09:04

They were sniffy with runny nose, but they had hay fever and were generally fine outdoors, the nose only started to run indoors so no reason to think it was caused by anything going up their nose...

FoxFoxSierra · 09/09/2018 09:11

I know a few people who went hard at the coke and they all became incredibly arrogant and self centred. Also getting through lots of chewing gum can be a sign that someone is doing amphetamines of some sort - coke, speed, mdma or pills

dudsville · 09/09/2018 09:14

Aha I thought so! I was sitting behind a woman who was on her way to work as a nurse in the nhs last week. She was sniffing, touching her nose a lot, super fidgety, looking around at everything really quickly and repeatedly. It was 6.45 am and I was distracted by her behaviour and wondering if she was on coke!

lennyisnuts · 09/09/2018 09:16

Gurning! That jaw becomes out of control. I once watched a woman clearly off her tits trying to eat a burger but she couldn't keep her jaw still enough to get the munch on.

AsleepAllDay · 09/09/2018 09:17

Dilated pupils, jumpy, racing/speedy talk, gurning, biting their cheek, sniffy... at least in my experience (I've never done it but have been around it)

Singerleon · 09/09/2018 09:24

If someone seems to be getting more sober as the night goes on e.g has a few drinks and seems tipsy but then starts on the coke and appears a lot less drunk and more wired. They may keep drinking but don’t seem to get drunk.

tierraJ · 09/09/2018 09:40

My sisters best friend has started to use coke recreationally with a new friend.

My sister has now distanced herself as she doesn't like the effect Coke has on people.

I'm very concerned about her as My best friend's nephew died suddenly recently after taking Coke that had been cut with fentanyl- I feel that I should warn my sisters friend but not sure.

Djnoun · 09/09/2018 09:53

There are a few things wrong on this thread. Burns on hands, tiny pupils, and gurning are all wrong.

I would look out for a sort of stuttering, catching style of breathing. General fidgeting. A boasting style of conversation. Wanting to drink a lot, as cocaine mixes with alcohol to produce a more powerful effect. Becoming very sexual or wanting to talk a lot about sex. Wanting to stay up very, very late, often until the morning.

The next day, look out for a runny nose, excessive tiredness, excessive sleeping, excessive hunger, and emotional numbness.

Also, the cycle of cocaine addiction doesn't tend to make you want it every day. The person will be generally fine unless they are triggered by drinking alcohol, again because of the reaction of alcohol and cocaine mixed together, or if they haven't had any in the last two weeks.

MrsCar · 09/09/2018 09:56

Being really friendly/confident

I guess you'd need to know the person well, to know if that is unusual or not

colditz · 09/09/2018 10:05

Disappearing to the toilet and then coming back being a complete bellend
