In need of advice regarding a debt I've just found out about

I moved house in March and stupidly didn't update my log book, I have only driven a year and didn't even know I had too 😬.

I received a letter to my new address this morning for an unpaid dartford charge on the day I moved for £626 , they have issues enforcement, I called to explain they said tough payment needed now. They refused a payment plan and refused my offer to payback £100 now and £526 on the 25th of September. They've said baliffs will be round and I could even be arrested.

I know I'm an idiot for not changing logbook but does anyone know what , if anything, I can do ? I don't have the money on credit cards or in bank and my family don't have money they can lend me.

Sorry this isn't much help but this is the third thread on the Dart charge I've seen in a week. Is there a genuine issue that the system is flawed?

I’d double check your bank statements just to make sure you definitely didn’t pay it.

I think they’re being unreasonable not agreeing to you paying some now some in a few weeks. But as it’s been a year they probably think your just trying to get out of it. WHEn are the baillifs suppose to be coming?

Sorry just realised this was only in March! I would be wanting a breakdown of why the amount is so high now.

The system relies on people keeping their car registration details up to date. I've only seen one of the other threads, but that was the same, the OP had failed to update their address.

OP is the debt now with the bailiffs? They may be more open to setting up a payment plan.

How has it escalated that much in six months?

PolkerrisBeach · 08/09/2018 14:13

Are you disputing the original offence? Did you drive on the crossing that day and not pay?

Ohmyinneedofadvice · 08/09/2018 14:17

It's the first time it ever slipped my mind as I was moving house, no excuse I know. I can't dispute it as I did use the crossing, so often and always remember , bar this time.

It's with enforcement the 25th isn't even that far away and can pay then in full but they won't agree to this. I only received the letter at 12 first I knew about it.

£5 to 626 , apparently went up to 490 as they went to enforcement court.
