Anyone done a passport renewal recently?

My disorganised DS is off to uni next Friday, and despite me nagging him for weeks to sort out his provisional driving licence to use as ID, he hasn't bloody done it. Cue panic in the Napoleon household.

DD, far more organised, renewed her passport in July and it came back in just over a week. Hoping that a passport renewal may be quicker than the driving licence which has now finally been sent. Anyone got theirs back within a week recently? It was done online yesterday and the old passport sent guaranteed delivery today. It's his own damn fault, but I do feel a bit sad that he may not be able to enjoy freshers if he won't have ID to get into clubs etc

Surely an expired pp can be used as id? It still shows his photograph and dob. I've actually flown within Britain on an expired passport.

Ime drivers license is quicker than pp to come back

He could've risked the expired passport if it hadn't been sent off with the renewal, although reading threads on The Student Room, it seems it's very much at the discretion of a particular establishment as to whether they'll accept it or not.

Just hoping it's super quick this time of year and comes back by Thursday!

Driving license is usually quicker. He will just have to use whichever comes first. My provisional came back within 2 days.

That's cheered him up a bit irunlikeahippo. Will make sure he doesn't leave the house on Thursday just in case! Friday will be too late as we need to leave early for the 6 hour drive. Kids eh? Who'd have 'em?!
