I’m trying to find out about my great grandfather who died in WW1.
I’m hitting a dead end with his name. It’s an unusual surname but it doesn’t seem to be anywhere in the online (free) places I search.
I suspect I’m going to have to get a copy of my grandfathers birth certificate to see if the name my Mum & Aunt have given me really is his name.
Does anyone have any ideas how to do this? I’ve signed up to Ancestry & findmypast but found them both a bit rubbish.
Any advice would be gratefully received!!

Have you had a look on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website? It’s a great site to navigate and utterly fascinating.
