Child stuck Pop corn stuck up nose

Ffssally · 07/09/2018 19:58

My nearly two year old is obsessed with putting stuff up her nose.

She’s shoved a piece of popcorn up and I think it’s gone up in to the cavity. I seen something right at the top but can’t see it now.

Will it just go down her throat, disintegrate or do I need to go to A&E Hmm

Try covering the other nostril with your finger and blowing a big sharp breathe into her mouth.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 07/09/2018 19:59

Ds shoved a tic tac up last year - at bloody 8yo!!
Just made him blow his nose and it came out!

Ffssally · 07/09/2018 20:00

Fitz but would that breath not just go in her lungs?

A+E before bedtime tonight I would say

Ffssally · 07/09/2018 20:02

Really don’t want to go A&E tonight. As it will be full of idiots. I’m going to shine a light up it and see it I can spot it again

Call 111 and ask the professionals

xyzandabc · 07/09/2018 20:03

Try and get her to blow her nose. Though being young, could be tricky. Failing that, close her other nostril with your finger, then give a short sharp blow in to her mouth.

That should blow it out.

I've not done it myself but seen it a few times on hospital documentaries i.e 24hrs in A+E type things.

Fitzsimmons · 07/09/2018 20:04

It worked for my son when he shoved a pea up there Grin

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 07/09/2018 20:26

Google says home remedy is to cover dc mouth with yours while holding a finger over empty nostril - give a quick breath into dc mouth.
Ta da
*In theory

It's called the mothers kiss.

A finger over the nostril (unblocked one obvs)
Put your mouth over here making sure it's fully sealed and give a quick blow.

If that doesn't work you need to seek medical attention. You may not #want# to go to a&e, but you may have to. Call 111

aperolspritzplease · 07/09/2018 20:32

A and e. A friend lost her sense of smell because as a child she shoved a pea up there and it got infected.

lljkk · 07/09/2018 20:32

It sucks but if you can't get her to sneeze it out, it's A+E job. They may be able to hook it out. Danger is of it being inhaled & then surgery to remove it. You don't want things to escalate to that.

BTDT with my DD!!

ems137 · 07/09/2018 20:35

The EXACT same thing happened with my toddler a few months ago!! I called my doctors and they said to go to A&E straight away because there was a risk she could aspirate it and choke

Fairylea · 07/09/2018 20:38

If you can’t get it out by her sucking in through her mouth and then blowing out through the nostril (with other one closed) then it’s definitely A n E tonight. You don’t want her breathing it in.

Wincher · 07/09/2018 20:44

I've only had to do the "mother's kiss" once (and I hope no more - my kids are now 8 and 5) - but it worked a treat with a raisin that was really far up. Definitely give it a go. Hope it works!

Ffssally · 07/09/2018 21:20

Ive has a look whilst she has gone asleep and I think what I can see is a polyp. So I’m going to take her to the walk in tomorrow.

I’ll put her in with me tonight and keep an eye on her

Did the mothers breath whilst she was awake - nothing came out but she exclaimed ‘HOT’ when I did it Confused

Omg A&E tonight!! Why have you put her to bed Confused

MyKingdomForBrie · 07/09/2018 21:23

I don't think I'd go the night with it up there.. call 111 or go A&E x

MyKingdomForBrie · 07/09/2018 21:23

Ignore the 'x' - bad habit!!

Fairylea · 07/09/2018 21:25

You can’t leave her to sleep. If you know it’s up there you need to take her to a and e. It’s dangerous otherwise.

aybeeseedee · 07/09/2018 21:46

Ring 111 for advice.

Ffssally · 07/09/2018 22:27

She is in my bed at the side of me.

Her breathing is fine.

When she puts stuff up her nose she makes a piggy noise - like breathing in and out fast. She’d had a bowl of pop corn and then ten mins later started making that noise so I assumed she’d put pop corn up there. Had a quick look could see something to the left high up.

Now after looking with my phone light when she was asleep I could see what I think is a polyp. I think it’s that whatvis causing her irritation

I’m going to take her to the walk in tomorrow

Your child has popcorn stuck up her nose.

She needs to be seen TONIGHT.

You are showing a shocking lack of concern and awareness.
