Urgh!!!! Last September/ October we seemed to have a whopper in the house daily. Hanging around on the floor or stairs almost trying to get me to stand on them!

WordWeasel · 07/09/2018 14:57

Oh crap. I've been in denial, but it really is THAT time of year again, isn't it?

ana18 · 07/09/2018 14:59

Isn't it likely to just come back in ?

1travellight · 07/09/2018 15:05

Isn't it likely to just come back in ?

Fucking hell! Homing spiders?

ineedwine99 · 07/09/2018 15:08

Urgh had 4 of these (could be the same one coming back)
We even take the and put them in the field next to us, WHY ARE THEY COMING BACK?!

RBW18 · 07/09/2018 15:58

OP if you can try to collect some conkers - I don't know where I heard this from but I wish I found out years ago.

Apparently spiders don't like conkers, I don't know if its the smell, shape, colour etc and quite frankly I don't give a rats ass BUT they don't like them and that's the main thing!!

I put two on each window sill around the house and it has reduced the amount of spiders we have by 99%

The year before I found this out I had so many, it was horrid. One night I went to catch one on the stairs with a glass, I nearly got it and the little shit turned around and chased ME back down. My DH was crying with laughter

Good luck - Stay strong it will soon be over (grin)

Conkers are referenced in this article. Im off to find some....

BippityBoppity87 · 07/09/2018 16:13

Urgh!! I had a similar looking spider in the house last year. I had to put a glass over it and get my DP to let it outside as I was too much of wuss to do it myself

I haven't seen any this year.. yet. But I have quite bad anxiety, especially from having mice before too, so I always feel like there's something darting across my peripheral vision.

AveABanana · 07/09/2018 16:18

Spider loving cat here. It's almost worth having everything that is lined up around the sink and bath knocked onto the floor twice a day (and a hairy bath) as the cat chases them off.

dudsville · 07/09/2018 16:22

We live with windows open year around. I've got used to calmly catching and releasing spiders. Yesterday I opened a door to see a massive one had built a Web right across it!

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 07/09/2018 16:25

If they're house spiders, the clue is in the name as to why they come back in Grin

yesornoworld · 07/09/2018 16:36

OP omg I caught one in my eldest kids bedroom last night just like that one. Same way in a long glass. It was going mad and I was so scared to put an envelope under the glass to trap it. Every time I lifted the glass a wee bit it would go mental trying to get out. We don't like killing spiders in our house, but my youngest had the hoover out and was aiming the pipe at the glass just in case it got free. Luckily managed to fling it out the back door phew!

LongSummerDays · 07/09/2018 16:38

It's mating season for spiders 🕷

So it begins... (spider pic warning...)
Coconutcake0 · 07/09/2018 16:42

Its still alive?! Fuck me, you should have KILLED it!

AllAtHome · 07/09/2018 16:44

Why kill it?!

I hate that attitude. If you leave them, they just pootle around and get on with life.

Crunchymum · 07/09/2018 16:46

We've had a stupid garden spider build his web over out gate.

DP had to move him (and unfortunately destroy his web!), an hour later I had to do the same.

Thankfully after I'd done the school run he seemed to have taken up residence somewhere else in the front garden!!

Coconutcake0 · 07/09/2018 16:46

I kill them cos i hate them. No spider is allowed to live in my house

LongSummerDays · 07/09/2018 16:47

I keep reading the thread title as (spider pig warning) Grin

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 07/09/2018 16:47

Why kill it Coconut? Why not just put it out of the window, or you know, leave another living creature the fuck alone?

Spider threads always descend into childish hysteria. Yes yes, kill it with fire, burn down your house, brilliant.

itsallgravybaby · 07/09/2018 16:54

Ugh I hear you OP - So. Many. Spiders.

I don't mind little ones, it's the big furry ones I'm not so keen on, especially when there are still plenty of flies buzzing around (the joy of living near a canal in summer!)

Unless they want to pay rent or start fly-killing to earn their keep, back in the garden they go!!

So it begins... (spider pic warning...)
BigBlueBubble · 07/09/2018 17:00

They’re just tootling around looking for girlfriends and boyfriends Smile

Never understood why people are so terrified of them. You’re way bigger than them and they run away from you.

dontticklethetoad · 07/09/2018 17:02

I don't mind them at floor level but if they're on the ceiling they can go fuck themselves. I'm convinced they're going to drop and get tangled in my hair.
I was trying to have a lie in last weekend but I had to get up because there was one above my bed. Bastard. It was so big you could see its face!

LoudestRoar · 07/09/2018 17:10

It's not coming back in, I could see it crossing the road from my front door!

OP posts:
AveABanana · 07/09/2018 17:11

Crossing the road? How big was it?
