Help with Joie stages car seat!

Sorry, posting here for traffic.

My Joie stages car seat won't recline. Using it in toddler mode. The installation video shows the lady just tipping it back, and then installing it.

But ours feels stuck and won't recline at all. Any tips?

I'm feeling at sea cos I don't drive and this is actually the car seat for my parents' car. My dad usually installs it but he's dying in hospital and I need it for taxis, relatives' cars etc.

Thanks for any help.

I find it difficult sometimes too, but DH somehow has the "knack".

Two possible things...

  • I just cannot do it when it is strapped in or tight against something, and certainly not when DD is in it. I have to have it empty, unstrapped and pulled forward a bit from the actual seat.
  • The bit that you have to pull up behind the head rest, I find it can stick, so that needs quite a firm pull up.

With those two things done, I just put a hand under the front of the seat and it usually tips fine.

Hope it works!

And so sorry about your dad Flowers

Thanks so much for replying. So do you pull up the bit behind the headrest to make it recline? That might make more sense - the video just shows her tipping it back and not pulling anything else up.

There’s a bit under the front of the seat just under where the child’s knees are that you pull and it reclines the seat.

So sorry about your dad x

I think the actual catch that you have to pull is under the front of the seat, so just under where the strap goes between their legs. Pull/push that with one hand, then use the head rest to move it. Hope that makes sense?!

Pages 7-8 here, the diagram might help...
