Any genealogy experts out there? What relation is this to me?

We have family visiting. It is the niece of my uncle's wife and her family.

Does anyone know what relation I am to her (if anything - she's my uncle's niece by marriage)? And what about my children (great niece/nephew to my uncle)? What is their relationship to my uncle's niece (and to her children)? Are they second/third cousins?? I can't get my head around it!!

No relation!

They’re no relation at all. If we’re talking genealogy and cousin relationships, then only blood relations count.

“Cousin” is defined as having shared ancestors. So if you share grandparents then you’re first cousins. If you share great-grandparents then you’re second cousins, and so on.

It gets more complicated with different generations. So if you take my first cousin’s children: my grandmother is their great-grandmother. That makes us first cousins once removed.

No relation to you if your uncle is her uncle only by marriage to her aunt.
I can't get my head around it - look for a shared sets of grandparents (great/great great grandparents etc).
So same parents = siblings;
same grandparents = first cousins;
same great grandparents = second cousins etc.
Your parents are their grandparents = first cousins once removed, your children would be their second cousins.

Thanks everyone! I knew there would be some experts out there.

I was hoping for something exciting like 3rd cousin twice removed. Ah well!
