Starting nursery

My 12 month old boy has started nursery this week. I go back to work Monday. This morning he cried as I dropped him off and it broke my heart. Sad

I know he'll be fine, and I need to work. I need reassurance that I'm not a horrible mother. Just tell me that it will be ok!

Hi OP. I also have to work, so my son started nursery earlier this year when he was also 12 months. I felt like the worst mother in the world dropping him off, I kept saying to my husband 'but I should be looking after him, not handing him to someone else to raise'. Many tears were shed (by me!)

The first few days were hard, harder on me than him to be honest. Do you know what, it got easier as time went on, & he loves nursery Smile we're 6 months in now & he's still excited to go in the morning. He's developed so much & he's learning so quickly, & I honestly think it's been brilliant for him. I still have days where I feel sad dropping him off, but it's been a great thing for him and me. You and your little one will be fine Smile

It gets easier . My youngest screamed first few times she went to childminder . She loves her now and I have to drag her home at the end of the day .

You're not a horrible mother, it will be ok, it will just take some time for you all to get used to the new routines.
I think it took us about 6 weeks before we all felt settled (DD, DH and me), then it was all good. It's harder on the parents! Your DS will enjoy his time at nursery, so many new toys, people, activities etc. And just because he is going to nursery, it doesn't mean you're no longer looking after him or raising him!

Thank you. We both survived today. I've got a weekend of squishy cuddles ahead, and hopefully we will get into the swing of it soon!

It will be fine. My eldest has just started school and being in childcare 3 days a week has massively helped him have a good start to reception
