How much do you pay for childcare?

Sorry, I've started a good few threads regarding childcare the past couple of days, however this is important to me so here goes...

How much do you pay for childcare per week? I'm trying to work out what's doable, what's normal, and what I can expect... thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance!

I'm completely stunned by how cheap a lot of these nurseries are.
Our nursery charges us £36 for an afternoon, a full day is £72, so at the moment our 14mth old does two afternoons a week whilst I try and find a job that would justify the cost of putting him in full time.
We're in Hertfordshire

Just under £9000 a year. That is for 3 days a week full time for a baby. That includes nappies, wipes, 2 meals and snacks but I have to provide milk as my dd is still on formula.

Not looking forward to the costs for next year as I am currently expecting another so it will be 2 children in the baby room which have higher costs.

£70/day in the SE, including all food, nappies, wipes, etc. There are slightly cheaper options locally, but not less than £60.

£56.70 is the day rate for 0-3 year olds in the nursery my child is at.
Thankfully though I work there and get an amazing discount so only pay £182 a month.

DrWhy · 08/09/2018 20:24

£1040/month for nursery, includes nappies wipes, breakfast, lunch and snacks but no dinner. 7.45 to 17.45. It’s somewhat subsidised by my work - other local nurseries are either similar price but require you to provide nappies etc., more expensive or much worse rated.

Forgot to add, I'm east London

Sarahandduck18 · 08/09/2018 20:29

£110 pwk for 19 1/2 hours for 3yo, term time only.

greenfooted · 08/09/2018 20:46

4300 per month, nanny four days a week plus one (quite cheap) private school. It's insane

Fizzyhedgehog · 08/09/2018 20:54

About £50 per week, have to provide nappies and wipes, breakfast and snack, a hot lunch is provided but costs an extra £50/month. DS is signed up for 4 days per week, 8am - 5pm.
HOWEVER, it's my workplace nursery. I get an employee discount and am on a salary sacrifice scheme, which is why it works out at that price when considering income tax. For "normal" people, it would be about £700/month + £50/month for food.

£320 a week for toddler in full time nursery (including food and nappies) and d.c. wrap around care at school.

troubled I am in America too, just outside NYC and pay $1650 a month for my baby. Her rate drops to $1100 next month. It's 7:30-5:30 and I have a sitter for 3:30-when DH or I get home. DD1 does aftercare which is $600 a month. All in for 3DC we pay about $3600 a month because we have an extra sitter during the summer.

Check your salary against Glassdoor. I'm fed up of employers underpaying British workers. It drives me crazy. When I worked for big4 I was paid $8k less a year than my American counterpart. When I raised this with HR they squirmed and eventually gave me the same pay.

Want2bSupermum · 09/09/2018 01:34

Monthly cost for 3DC is about £2,700. It's more than what we spend on housing. Why we don't get a better tax break is beyond me.

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 09/09/2018 08:25

£4.50/hr x 40 hours/week = £180 x 4 weeks = £720. Deduct our £243 childcare vouchers = £477 leaves out bank account per month.

JessieMcJessie · 09/09/2018 13:18

North London, Zone 3. £60 a day for 3 days, 7.30 to 6, all meals and snacks included but we have to provide nappies and wipes. The nursery is super-convenient, literally next door to the station that DH and I use to commute.

DS is 2. We don’t qualify for tax fee childcare but I do get childcare vouchers through salary sacrifice.

RickyGold · 09/09/2018 16:03

£65 a week for afterschool and the holidays, school has a free breakfast club which is great. I pay the same every month, whether term time or holiday which works well for both me and the childminder.

Smellybluecheese · 10/09/2018 22:32

£900 a month for 3 days a week at nursery 7.30-6.00. Includes everything. We are in the southeast.

funfair · 05/02/2019 20:42

1.9k a month for 3 day per week nanny. Plus food, car , activities etc.

TheWeatherGirl1 · 05/02/2019 21:35

£1400pm in Herts for 18mth old.
Includes all meals and nappies.
It's so expensive it blows my mind. This here is the reason most women don't go back to work.

TheWeatherGirl1 · 05/02/2019 21:37

Oh darn, I got zombied.

FreeButtonBee · 05/02/2019 21:56

I budget around £3500 per month for childcare 3 under 6. That includes nanny (4 11hr days) plus 9 hours pre school nursery for the youngest plus various clubs and classes (2 each for older ones, just swimming for the youngest). This includes paying pension for our nanny.

It’s fucking expensive and more than our mortgage on a £1,000,000 house in SW London. But the only way to keep up our careers long term. Once youngest goes to school cost will drop (and we are using state schools for primary).

It does make methinkt hat the cost private school for secondary may not be too much of a stretch though...
