How much do you pay for childcare?

Sorry, I've started a good few threads regarding childcare the past couple of days, however this is important to me so here goes...

How much do you pay for childcare per week? I'm trying to work out what's doable, what's normal, and what I can expect... thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance!

@Irinn mine is in a naice suburb on the outskirts of Glasgow

aperolspritzplease · 07/09/2018 14:46

It's £95 a day here for a full day in the baby room. 5% discount for sibling (I've got twins). It's bloody expensive.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoooorrr · 07/09/2018 14:49

£210 a week for 5 days. Doesn't include nappies, wipes or food.

£5.50/hr, childminder, all meals and snacks included but not nappies.

We pay for 15.5hrs a day (one DC wraparound only, one full time).

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoooorrr · 07/09/2018 14:54

Sorry - should have added that DS's nursery is a forces nursery, so subsidised, may not be a fair representation of what it costs.

malvinandhobbes · 07/09/2018 15:32

£45 a day, includes food but not nappies. It is a challenge. Some of the local schools are starting to offer all day provision for 2 year olds for about £28 a day - but I can't bring myself to send my 2 year old to school (in a uniform!)

LorelaiRoryEmily · 07/09/2018 15:38

I’m in Ireland, we pay €40 per day to a childminder, just 2 days per week, I work 3 days and DH works full time, one of his days off I work so we only need 2 days childcare, we provide all food/drinks/snacks/nappies/wipes, 9.15-5pm, she charges for sick days and her holidays too

Pollaidh · 07/09/2018 16:14

£57/day nursery, not inc. nappies.

Comes to £285/week plus we also need a PT nanny, for 6 hours a week after school care, so around £50 for that and 1 breakfast club/week £5.50. Plus extra money for various school clubs.

We spend at least £1560/month on our nursery and school age child, not including after school clubs.

City in south of England.

DC06 · 07/09/2018 16:29

My local Montessori nursery is £40 a day (8am until 5pm) including lunch. They start at 2 years old x

Kemer2018 · 07/09/2018 16:33

These costs are why I sahm for 5 years.
I would have earned much less than nursery and without tax credits to soften the blow, it didnt make sense.

Mymadworld · 07/09/2018 16:34

Childminder here in SE commuter belt & I charge £60/day for pre-schoolers and £21 for wraparound. Nurseries are £50-65 a day and school club would work out similar to my £21 if you want breakfast and stay until 6pm and have tea but work put much cheaper if you just need an hour or so as I charge a set fee regardless of hours used.

EwItsAHooman · 07/09/2018 16:34

One of the reasons I decided not to return to work after my last DC is that childcare here for four DC would be £410 a week (that and I have DC with SN who is difficult to find childcare for). That's a childminder charging £3.50 an hour for one child full time and three children for wrap around then four children full time in the holidays, 48wks per year.

M3lon · 07/09/2018 16:58

about £550 a week on the basis that this is what DP would likely earn if they weren't being a SAHP.

Mrsbadger77 · 07/09/2018 17:10

This is pointless. There are massive differences across the country and even in different areas in the same city.

TroubledLichen · 07/09/2018 17:16

It's even worse in some places in America!
$2000 a month for a toddler going full time here, another $500 easily on top of that for an infant. Breakfast/lunch included but we have to provide our nappies/wipes. And we have to pay out for an extra year because school starts a year later. Reading this really makes me miss the UK. A second child whilst we’re living here will mean either a big age gap or me staying at home.

nippey · 07/09/2018 17:19

£312 a week, that’s full time 730-630 with everything included.

We are very close to south east London but not quite London. This was one of the cheaper options, here. When we used to live in Kent it was only £198 a week and the priciest I visited here was £400 a week, it’s madness!

WaitingRoom1 · 07/09/2018 17:30

@Mrsbadger77 not pointless at all! It's interesting, especially as most people are stating where they live.

We pay £1490 per month (about £350 per week), for 2 year old DS. Full time 8am-6pm and includes all food, milk, snacks, nappies.

Surrey but inside M25 and is priced competitively with other nearby nurseries.

Will soon have 2 to pay for - ouch!!

sdaisy26 · 07/09/2018 18:36

About £80 per week wrap around care with a childminder for 2 dc - 4 mornings & 3 afternoons a week, term time only.

sdaisy26 · 07/09/2018 18:37

My childcare is more this year than it was last year with 1 dc wrap around & a pre-schooler doing 30 hours.

funfair · 07/09/2018 18:44

Pay a nanny £130 per day. That's before entertainment costs/ classes etc

Rkay2 · 07/09/2018 18:49

Baby room south w st London 7.30-6.30 all included £1900

Others were £1200 less hours and you provide nappies and wipes

I’ve not even put the baby in yet. I’ve just been looking.

spinabifidamom · 07/09/2018 19:22

I pay a local babysitter £10 to come look after my children twice a week. Since I work I can get my work done without being distracted by either of them. She takes them to the library and park too. It’s a far cheaper option to a daycare provider. I use that time to escape from the chaos reigning at home for a few hours every day. I’m a part time flight attendant scheduler.

KindergartenKop · 07/09/2018 20:13

£68 per day for a child minder.

DonnaDarko · 07/09/2018 20:16

1050 per month
That's for 5 days per week, 7:30am-6:30pm
All food included, but nappies and wipes are not
They used to be open all year but are now closed at Xmas :(
